Socktober at Ben Franklin #bfTakesCare
October Updates
October is a busy month at Ben Franklin! Class pictures, trout arriving, new thinker spaces opening, field trips, Fall Fest, the Week of Respect, Socktober, Halloween, and so much more ... Check out a few highlights below along with a few staff updates:
Trout in the Classroom
Our Trout in the Classroom experience is in full swing with our school's trout tank relocated to the foyer for easier student access. This project is run by several third grades and benefits the entire school community. Right now we have lots of trout eggs with a few that have hatched. Next time you are at the school, check out the trout tank!
Thinker Spaces
You may have noticed the new Thinker Spaces going up around school thanks to an LTEF grant awarded to Mrs. Muzi, Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Seipp, and Mrs. Offery! The main Thinker Space is in the foyer and highlights the biography of a different "thinker" every month. There are opportunities for students to learn about the thinker as well as pose questions.
Additionally, spread throughout the school are mini-think zones where students can engage in a variety of fun, interactive activities such as building words, counting coins, or solving complex problems. These provide excellent opportunities to extend learning around the school!
Thank your LTEF for continuing to support great schools in Lawrence. Check out the LTEF website here for more information about this wonderful educational charity!
Staff Updates
Ben Franklin extends its gratitude to Ms. Betty Daniels, cafeteria aide, for her 10 years of service to the children of our school and wishes her well as she retires!
Ben Franklin extends its gratitude to Ms. Maioro for her diligent and talented work in our music room these past few months and also welcomes Mrs. Colleen LaFlamme as our full-time music teacher.
Ben Franklin wishes Mrs. Wolf well and looks forward to her return in 2017. At this time, Mrs. Wolf will need to extend her leave through the beginning of January. Ms. Belmont has agreed to continue in the role of BF school counselor during this time. Many thanks for the outstanding job Ms. Belmont is doing leading our counseling and character education programs.
