Ohlone Family Connection

Big picture

Busy Bees!

We are buzzing at Ohlone! Outside, you will see Coach Bryant with students warming up for an energetic game of sequence touch. On the farm, students are learning how to use tools and tend to their garden beds. In classrooms, students are expressing their creative individuality and working collaboratively to solve problems and share ideas. In the library, students are learning new ways to build self-awareness and consider the perspective of others. In music, you will hear singing and the beginnings of budding musicians. In P.E., students are working together to bring a rainbow parachute up and down to bounce balls, my favorite memory ever as a kid. At recess, students are running and skipping, talking and walking, and running field games for their peers. We are working hard to ensure that every student gets exactly what they need to be joyful humans.

Please enjoy the photos from the week below. I hope you have a wonderful weekend that is both restful and rejuvenating. I'm having tacos, beach time, and redwoods :).

Picture Day - September 23

Don't forget to spruce up those beautiful children of yours for Picture Day next Thursday, September 23. They are naturals, so there isn't much to do ;).

Attendance

Student attendance is critical this year. We have had an inconsistent year and a half with frequent changes and less than ideal learning environments. It is important for Ohlone students to arrive on time and to be present each school day when they are feeling well.

Attendance is one of the district's focus goals this year. Please take vacations during our scheduled time off rather than on school days. Truancy letters (ouch) will be sent home at 3, 6, and 10 days of unexcused absences. At 10 days of unexcused absences, we are required to look into the School Attendance Review Boards (SARB) process. We don't want to get there.

Did you know that arriving more than 30 minutes late or leaving school early for more than 30 minutes is considered an unexcused absence unless it is for a valid reason? You can find detailed information about attendance on our district's website here.

We are here to help. Please reach out any time. We value open communication and working together to ensure that all of our students are present and engaged.

Asymptomatic On-Site Testing

We offer optional COVID-19 testing every Tuesday during the school day through a partnership with Predicine Labs. Elementary students receive the oral swab.

There is a one-time online registration requirement. Parents/Guardians may pre-register their child for on-site COVID Testing by completing the link here or scanning the QR code to the right. These links are school specific. If you have children at more than one site, you will need to use the individual code specifically for your child’s school.

Once registered, please let your child's teacher know if they will be tested every week or intermittently. If intermittent, parents are required to inform the teacher by the day before. If you do not want your child tested, do not register and let your child's teacher know. Unregistered students will not be tested. Thank you for your partnership on this.

Principal's Tea

I will be holding monthly Principal Teas on Zoom beginning in October. It's been a busy start to the year! I'm looking forward to spending some time with you.

I would like to know what time of the day works best for most parents. Please complete the questionnaire below so that I may try to meet the needs of all of our families. It's only three questions. You can share what content you are interested in as well.

Thank You

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who have been helping with farm and K/1 art this year. You have been a breath of fresh air, and we look forward to welcoming more parents on campus in the future.

Thank you for your donations that provided grants for our teachers, specialists, and school. We are grateful that we have such a supportive community who provides us with means to provide resources that will enrich the educational and social-emotional lives of our students.

Farm Work Day - September 26 - 9-12

Sign up for one hour slots or come for 30-45min on Sunday, 9/26, 9-12.
We appreciate any help you can give!

The Farm is our outdoor classroom and its maintenance is provided exclusively by Ohlone parent volunteer service hours. No experience necessary! There are jobs for every ability level from weeding to fix it projects and everything in between. Each family is expected to volunteer one hour per child each year for Farm Workdays. So, if you have two children at Ohlone, your family should volunteer for 2 hours for one Farm Workday or 1 hour for two Farm Workdays. We can't take care of our farm without our parent volunteers, so thank you.
