WIND SYMPHONY Sectionals Resume THIS WEEK

Face-to-Face Student Reminders

Please don't forget to bring your CHARGED device each day with your charger, headphones, and your instrument and band binder on the day of your band class. This week Monday/Wednesday are A days and Tuesday/Thursday/Friday are B days.

Grades

**If you have a question/concern about a grade issue, please direct your communication to the teacher of your student's class. Although it looks like Mrs. Becker is the teacher for all the classes, I am not and don't always have the information regarding grades for classes I don't teach. We are both always happy to help, but this will save time in the long run.**

Mr. Urban - Beginner Trumpet, Beginner French Horn, Beginner Trombone, Beginner Baritone/Tuba, Beginner Percussion (grades only), and Honors Band (Non-Varsity).


Grades from Canvas have been synced to Skyward on Sunday evening and it seems like it worked better this time. The district is now running a recalculation of grades in Skyward (so averages should be corrected) Monday-Friday at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm.


Although Skyward is the official GISD gradebook, the most up to date grade info will be in Canvas (because we only sync to Skyward twice a week). Thanks for continuing to stay positive as we figure out what works best in each of these new systems.

Please understand that this year is unlike any other and our policies, procedures, and plans are likely to change throughout the year, especially with regards to performances when we are allowed to gather together again.

Band Fees

Band fees for the fall semester will be $30 for all students. This will cover their physical band binder with all included materials, a band t-shirt, and full year subscriptions to Breezin' Thru Theory and Music First, online music platforms we will be using throughout the year for virtual instruction/assessment. If your student is a 7th or 8th grader and your band fees were paid in full last year, you will receive a credit on your Charms account for activities we were not able to complete/attend in the spring. The credits in Charms will be reflected by August 31.

Band fees can be paid through Paypal in Charms (preferred method), with credit card, and by cash/check if absolutely necessary.


**Students using school-owned instruments (oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor sax, bari sax, French horn, euphonium, and tuba) are required to pay an instrument usage fee set by the district of $25 per semester ($50 for the year). This fee will be assessed in Skyward and payments will need to be made online in Skyward this fall. We are still setting this up in Skyward and will let you know when the charges have been applied so you are able to make the payment.**

Helpful Info/Reminders

Face-to-Face Seating/Locker Info

If your student is joining us Face-to-Face this week, please use this link to find their chair number and locker number for band. The list is separated by class period and shows ID numbers, not names. If your student has band 1st or 5th period, they will not have a locker since they will take it with them after their class at the beginning of the day.

SEATING/LOCKER INFO FOR FACE-TO-FACE STUDENTS


Students who have band 2, 3, 4, 6, or 7th period will put their instrument away in their assigned locker before they go to their 1st/5th period class in the morning, but will be required to carry their instrument with them to the rest of their classes AFTER they have their band class period that day.

UPDATE - Charms Issues

If you have tried logging in to Charms and following the directions I sent last week regarding password reset and it is not working, we are working on it. I have contacted the Charms people about the password reset issue, but have not heard back yet. I will keep you all posted and we will get this problem solved ASAP.


If you have logged in and are wondering about paying band fees if your student has a credit on their account, the easiest thing to do is to make a miscellaneous payment. You can specify what the payment is for since it will be for the remaining balance and not the entire Fall fee. Then you can "request a transfer" of that payment to go to the fall fees.
