Word of the Week

An epithet is "a characterizing word or phrase that accompanies, or occurs in place of, the name of a person or thing" or "a disparaging or abusive word or phrase."

// Richard the First is frequently referred to by the epithet "Lionheart."

// The school's policy makes it clear that derogatory epithets will not be tolerated.

"Seeing the [Combat Veterans motorcycle club] holding American Flags … brings back a lot of patriotic emotions. WWII vets are part of what has been referred to as 'The Greatest Generation.' I wonder what the epithet will be for our current generation." — Stephen Rowland, The Daily Herald (Columbia, Tennessee), 23 Mar. 2022

If there is inclement weather, graduation will be held in the DHS Arena. Seniors will receive 8 tickets for graduation in the arena if there is a threat of inclement weather. Tickets will be distributed at graduation practice on May 26th. Seniors must attend practice to receive tickets. No tickets will be issued for graduation at Ogle Stadium.

Parents/Guests need to be seated by 7:20 pm as we will not allow anyone to enter once the graduates begin the processional. Any guests that arrive after the procession will be directed to the visitor side of the stadium. We strongly suggest that guests do not leave until the ceremony is over because of the disruption caused when guests leave. Guests who must leave during the ceremony will be directed to the top of the stadium and must exit on the far right or far left of the stadium. Guests who leave the stands during the ceremony will NOT be allowed back onto the home side of the stadium until the ceremony is over. Waters will be sold for $1.

Graduation will be streamed live. The link will be available on the Decatur City Schools website approximately 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.

Graduation is a formal occasion, and we would like each senior to have the recognition he/she deserves. We want each family to see their senior walk across the stage and hear their name called. Balloons and noise makers will not be permitted. You may leave those in your car and give them to the graduate after the ceremony.
