Quail Valley Swim Team
Summer 2020 | vol. 4 | June 17
A Message From Coach Alec
Due to COVID-19, the swim season is very different this summer than in previous years. A regular swim season would consist of swimming competing against the other teams of Columbia, and either hosting or traveling to another pool to swim. This summer we have decided to create an inter-squad season within our own team. To do so, I have divided the team into 4 separate teams. Team names are still in the working but as of now, it is Team 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each team includes every age group and will swim once a week against another team. The idea of this season is to limit the number of swimmers and people at the pool along with still practicing social distancing. Swim meet dates are as follows:
- Monday, June 22 - Team 1 v 2
- Thursday, June 25 - Team 3 v 4
- Monday, June 29 - Team 1 v 3
- Wednesday, July 1 -- Team 2 v 4
- Monday, July 6 - Team 1 v 4
- Thursday, July 9 - Team 2 v 3
Please note, there is one Wednesday night meet on July 1 (no Thursday night meet due to the 4th of July holiday weekend).
Team Championship | Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19 | All 4 Teams Will Participate
Swim meets this summer are more of a developmental style where all swimmers will get the opportunity to race. The goal is to simply track the progress of the swimmers and get a chance to demonstrate what they have learned in practice. The meet set up is going to be very similar to B meets in the past. Coach Cindy and I will be the officials and starters. We will be observing the races and providing information to our assistant coaches on anything that we see that will need to be worked on at practice. Swim meet order of events will be as follows:
- 6 & Under 25 Freestyle
- 8 & Under 25 Butterfly
- 9-10, 11-12, 13 & Up 50 Butterfly
- 8 & Under 25 Backstroke
- 9-10, 11-12, 13 & Up 50 Backstroke
- 8 & Under Freestyle Relay
- 9-10, 11-12, 13 & UP Freestyle Relay
- 8 & Under 25 Breaststroke
- 9-10, 11-12, 13 & Up 50 Breaststroke
- 8 & Under 25 Freestyle
- 9-10, 11-12, 13 & Up 50 Freestyle
- 9 & Up 100 IM
Coaches will determine what swimmers are ready to swim. There will be no designated line up, everyone will get the opportunity to swim what they are able to swim. A form will be sent out before the meets to determine who will and will not be there so we are able to build freestyle relays.
Throughout the season we will need a couple of volunteers to help with the swim meet. We will need up to 8 timers (1 per lane, and 2 back up timers). We will also need volunteers to log the times into a computer on a spreadsheet. The coaching staff can handle the rest. We will have a volunteer sign up form sent out before the swim meets.
A roster of the team, which includes what team number each swimmer is on, will be emailed to you via Active. (A copy will also be posted on the bulletin board at the pool.) I did the best I could to keep family members together along with families who carpool together. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. We are excited to have the opportunity to race and demonstrate the progress of our swimmers.

- Swimmer area will be marked by two blue tailgating tents.
- Swimmers are not to share caps or googles with anyone other than family members.
- A team suit is not required this year but can be worn if you would like to get some wear out of it.
