Sierra Family Newsletter May 28, 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Sierra Families,
The last week of school!?!
I can't believe it's here. Congratulations... you and your shark made it! Reflecting on the year we've had, I am so incredibly proud of the resiliency, care, and teamwork that you, your children, and our staff put into this year. Even though it wasn't always easy, looking back, it really was a thing of beauty considering all that went into it. Thank you all for your partnership in this incredible year. We hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation and we wish all the sharks leaving Sierra for middle school or other towns/states the absolute BEST in their next academic adventure! Your children are truly wonderful humans!
New traditions for our special 6th Grade sharks' last day of school!
In lieu of our traditional 6th grade promotion on the last day of school due to restrictions on gatherings, I would like to introduce a couple of new traditions for our special 6th graders who have triumphed through this year like no other.
Our sixth grade teachers have planned a fun day of togetherness and reflection for our sixth graders. In addition, one new tradition is a little surprise that our 6th graders will discover on campus that day at school and get to take home with them.
The next new tradition (not a surprise) is a schoolwide "clap-off." Sixth graders will eat lunch until 12:00 and then pack up and do a "clap-off" parade around the school at 12:10. The K-5th grade students will be lined up around the perimeter of the school while your 6th graders take one last walk through campus before they are officially seventh graders. They will end the parade on the big kid playground around 12:12, so I'd like to invite our sixth grade parents to park in that back parking lot, and walk over to line up along the exterior of the playground gate to round out the clap-off as your shark walks off campus for the last time as a sixth grader! The rest of campus dismisses at 12:20 like usual, and kindergarten at 12:10, so if you have a 6th grader and a kindergarten student, you can park, pick him/her up, then walk over to the back lot.
I am so very proud of your kids, and how truly delightful and persevering they've been this year. They have left an indelible mark on my heart! Thank you all for every ounce of support and communication and partnership this year has required.
