Daily Arrival Procedures
Daily Dismissal Procedures
Your child's teacher will reach out to confirm your child's daily dismissal plan. Please communicate any changes to this plan, as they arise, throughout the school year to ensure that your child gets home safely each day.
BUS RIDERS: Bus riders are dismissed through the north doors (by the gym) each afternoon. Classroom teachers walk students to the buses and help them find the appropriate bus. During the first few days, this process can take a bit longer than normal as staff members double check that all students are on the correct bus. Then, the bus can get further delayed as the drivers take time to make sure students safely get off at the right stop.
Lana Dudzinski, Park Hill's Transportation Coordinator, will be sending a notification to parents via School Messenger on Monday, August 31st notifying them that bus information (bus #, bus stop location, pick-up and drop-off times) will available through your Parent Portal beginning on Tuesday, September 1st. Watch for that communication if your child will be a bus rider this year.
ADVENTURE CLUB: Students who participate in the after-school care program, Adventure Club, will be dismissed directly to their assigned classroom each day. Adventure Club staff checks in each student and cross-checks with our front office to ensure that all students who are enrolled in Adventure Club are accounted for at dismissal.
While the car rider line can be slow the first few days, once students and families learn the routine, it will speed up considerably. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding that our main focus in on all students getting into cars safely. Parents can help by staying in your vehicle and allowing staff members to assist students into cars and teaching your child how to buckle their own seat belt.
WALKERS: Walkers will be dismissed through the K/1 Pod doors and can meet their families near the baseball field south of the playground. Students who don't have a parent/guardian meeting them at school, will be accompanied to the corner of Chariton and 81st Street by a staff member who will make sure they cross safely.

PTA Membership Drive~ JOIN NOW!
As all Hawthorn Families are welcomed back to school, whether online or in person, you are invited to become a member of the PTA by registering here: https://my.cheddarup.com/c/hawthorn-elementary-pta-membership-2020 Members have a vote in Hawthorn PTA matters and can volunteer and engage as much or as little as you like.
In preparing for the school year ahead, your Hawthorn PTA has been working on safe, socially-distant family activities (see list in calendar below); helping to fulfill our teacher’s wish lists for their classrooms; creating an online Spirit Store; and welcoming students and teachers back with school yard signs.
We’re also working on new ideas for virtual learning adventures to replace the traditional community-gathering school events or field trips of previous years. We’re interested in your ideas, too, and hope you will join us at one of the upcoming PTA meetings (see list in calendar below) on Zoom or share your feedback at hawthornpta@gmail.com, on Facebook at Hawthorn Elementary PTA or Instagram @hawthorn_pta.
Additionally, your PTA membership pays for resources for the school, the Care Fund for families in need, District, State and National PTA dues, and more.
Whatever school might look like for you in the year ahead, we are glad you are part of the Hawthorn Family. Stronger Together.
