Weekly eNews Update
Spain Park High School 09.13.19
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
By the time you read this newsletter, hopefully, we will have survived the first Harvest Moon of the season, and Friday the 13th. That being said, we had a great week educationally, and we are now at the half-way mark of the first nine-weeks grading period. We have so many things to be thankful for and to be proud of here, at Spain Park.
Thursday morning, we honored seven students who distinguished themselves by attaining National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s Semifinalists status. These students are in an elite group of less than one percent of US High School seniors. We are honored to congratulate: Amaar Ebrahim, Jackson Hudson, Alexander Laney, Marcus Mudano, Natalie Plourde, Janna Ren, Nicole Taylor. Click Here for the full story.
On Tuesday a variety of leadership groups across our campus attended the Focus Rally 2019 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The students participated in breakout sessions on hot topics such as vaping, bullying, distracted driving, and suicide awareness. They were able to interact with students from other schools, hear stories from real people, and have meaningful conversations. These leaders will now share what they have learned with our student body to make Spain Park a better place. A big thank you to Mrs. Candace Strickland and Mrs. Michelle Bennett for their leadership in making this event a success.
This week at Spain Park, we recognized Suicide Prevention Week with several activities to raise awareness of this tragic and growing issue that our teenagers face. Click HERE for the video shown during AO on Wednesday. A good conversation starter that you can have with your student would be to inquire about #AskListenAct. I would like to recognize The Cool to Be Kind Club, and their sponsors, Mrs. Cain and Mrs. Thomason, for the planning and thought put into making this week meaningful. If you would like more information, click HERE.
Your student received the first nine week’s progress report on Thursday. If you have any questions concerning your student’s grade, please contact the teacher.
As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.
Sincerely,
Peter L. Giangrosso
