Lowell Lantern

Week of April 15--April 19, 2019

Monday is a RED DAY for specials.

Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.

Dear Lowell Families,

I hope you have all been enjoying the nice weather over these past few days! We have had a busy week at Lowell and throughout the district! We loved welcoming our soon-to-be kindergarteners at Round-Up this week! Please spread the word that families with children who will be entering kindergarten at the start of next year are able to register students at Lowell during the regular school day.

Thank you to all of our families who attended STEAM Night earlier this week! What a great evening filled with awesome experiences for our students!

Congratulations to our 3rd quarter Honor Roll students! We celebrated their accomplishments at our Honor Roll Breakfasts this week! We are so proud of their hard work and efforts!

Our 3rd and 4th grade students will begin taking the ILEARN Assessment starting the week of April 22, 2019. This is the state mandated standardized assessment in which all students will participate. This is an important assessment which allows us to gauge the academic growth and understanding of our students. Students will take the practice test next week and will begin ILEARN testing on Monday, April 22. The assessment window is open through Friday, May 17 and students will be testing at various times throughout that window. Attendance during this time is very important to ensure that all assessments are complete. Please be mindful of this testing window when scheduling appointments for your child. Please make sure that students:

  • Get plenty of sleep during testing weeks.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast.

  • Receive encouragement from you and that you let them know you believe in them!

Thank you for all of your support and have a great weekend!

Mrs. Griffin

3rd and 4th Graders will take the new statewide assessment called ILEARN. This is the assessment that has replaced ISTEP. The ILEARN testing window opens on Monday, April 22. ILEARD measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards. ILEARN is the summative accountability assessment for Indiana students and assesses the areas of Language Arts and Math. Fourth grade will have an additional Science assessment that they will complete. For more information about ILEARN, please visit the IDOE website at https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/ilearn

Congratulations to our Robotics Team! They are going to WORLDS!!!!

We are so excited and proud of our team and wish them the best of lucks at Worlds in Louisville!

We are currently looking for corporate sponsors and/or donations to support our Lowell Robotics Teams in the Vex I! World Competition. The World Competition will be held in Louisville, Kentucky at the end of April. As a result, we need to secure overnight accommodations for our team as well as securing other associated costs related to the championship event.
