The White Perception of the African American race
Leading up to the 1930's, African Americans had had their ancestors abducted and forces into pay-less labor. Even though, in 1863, they were given their freedom, they were still considered to be subhuman by many people. Trials were next to rigged into the favor of any white man trying a black man
The Great Depression
After the stock market crashed in 1929, a significant amount of people found themselves in an awful financial situation and/or on the streets. With it being so difficult to find a job due to low supply, many people stayed that way until FDR was elected president and he dug the nation out of the hole that they were stuck in.
