Dispelling Gifted Stereotypes
What Does A Gifted Student Look Like?
Stereotypes: Gifted students are generally weak, sickly, and wear glasses because they are bookworms. They are often "nerdy" in appearance and are just different than everyone else.
Facts: Gifted children actually tend to be physically stronger, have fewer illnesses and generally exceed their age-mates in height and weight. (Colangelo, 36 Myths and Stereotypes of Gifted Students: Awareness for the Classroom Teacher) Gifted students are often involved in activities outside of the academic realm. They also tend to be stable, well adjusted individuals.
