Mrs. Haas' Third Grade News
April 10, 2016
Reading
This week we will discuss the characteristics of a folktale. Students will be on the look out for these elements as we read a variety of tales this week. We will also discuss possessive nouns. Students will learn how to punctuate them correctly and how to identify if it's a singular or plural possessive noun. We will also work on possessive pronouns as well.
Writing
Students are working hard on their How To Books.
Math
We kicked off Topic 13 on Friday. During this topic students will work on measurement skills as we find the perimeter of different shapes. Ask your third grader what perimeter is.
Don't forget to keep practicing those multiplication and division facts.
Science
We will wrap up our study of weather this week and start our new topic on plants and animals. Students will start a habitat research project in the library with Mrs. Hammes this week. They will research the weather, plant life, animal life, and any habitat destruction that has occurred in their habitat. Check in with your third grader to see what habitat they are studying.
Lots of Volunteers Needed!
On Friday, April 22nd at 2:00 I need lots of volunteers to help with a painting project the students will be doing to go along with their final writing project of the year. I promise you won't have to do any painting, but you might get a bit messy as you help pass out paper and move painted papers to the dry station. Please check your schedule and let me know if you can join us for an afternoon of fun!
Class Party
It's time to celebrate our hard work once again. The students earned a party and voted to have an ice cream party. We will celebrate Thursday afternoon in class. I will provide the vanilla ice cream and students can bring in toppings to share. Please remember we are a nut free classroom. Check out the following link to see what is ok to bring in. If you happen to have any bowls and plastic spoons at home, we would love to use them.
