Wolfsville Recognized as Maryland Green School

The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) recently announced that Wolfsville Elementary School has been recertified as a 2018 Maryland Green School! Maryland Green Schools are part of a national and international community of sustainable green schools. Our students are becoming better stewards of our Earth’s resources and developing a better understanding of their own local environment as a result of our efforts. There are 618 active Maryland Green Schools, which equates to approximately 27% of all Maryland schools.

The Maryland Green Schools program encourages educational opportunities for PreK-12 schools that increase awareness and understanding of environmental relationships that impact public health and the local community. The program is aligned with Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement 2014 goals and supports Maryland State Department of Education graduation requirements and standards.

Over the past four years, our school has demonstrated and documented a continuous effort to integrate sustainable environmental management practices, environmental education curriculum, professional development opportunities, and community engagement into our daily operations. This award signifies that our school is making a commitment to developing stewards of the earth!

A special thanks to our entire staff for supporting these efforts for our students, especially Mrs. Butler. She serves as a champion of this program and works hard to sustain our outdoor school experience for our students!

Staffing Announcement- Literacy Specialist

Our current literacy specialist, Ms. Fream, is pursuing other opportunities and will not serve in this role next year for Wolfsville. Please join me in thanking her for sharing her passion for literacy and her years of service to Wolfsville in this role!

To that end, it is with great excitement that I share with you, Mrs. Kathleen Cassidy, has officially accepted our vacant position. Mrs. Cassidy comes to us with over 2 decades of experience in the role as classroom teacher, special education teacher and literacy specialist at Lewistown and Oakdale Elementary schools. She will bring to the position strong literacy knowledge and a perspective of small and large schools. Most importantly, our staff knew Mrs. Cassidy was 'the one' as she is a kind and caring person who will lead our students and colleagues with compassion. In her interview Mrs. Cassidy clearly communicated her first priority on the job will put students, staff and families FIRST and she will work to build relationships with all stakeholders. We welcome Mrs. Cassidy and look forward to her future contributions to our school community!

No other staffing decisions have been made at this time. This information will be shared as decisions are finalized for the 2018-2019 school year.
