High School Students Selected For All-State Chorus
Six local high school students have made the South Carolina Music Education Association’s 2019 All-State Chorus. South Florence High School’s all-state chorus members are: Antonio Brown, Joryll Robinson, and Jah’Reon Robinson. West Florence High School’s all-state choir members are Dontex Haggins, Joshua Barrett and Kendall Harvey.
In order to be selected for All-State Chorus, the students auditioned in an a capella quintet singing a classical piece by Handel. They were also required to sight-sing, a melody that they had never seen before.
The All-State Choral clinic is a week-long event that will be held at Winthrop University in March and will be conducted by prominent composers/conductors from across the country.
The program was organized to provide an opportunity for superior choral students to sing together and to represent the South Carolina in statewide events. Students who participate in All-State have an opportunity to further utilize the skills obtained and developed in their local school programs. The South Carolina All-State Chorus program provides an intensive and demanding vocal experience which fosters self-discipline and personal growth as well as musicianship.
