Classroom News!
Our Family unit has given your children opportunities to learn about who is in a family, identifying the people in their family, and acknowledging that every family is special. There is a Kindergarten family tree on one of our bulletin boards. In our block area we have a lovely wooden house, some furniture and play-people as accompanying props.
Symmetry was the name of the game this week. We learned about the line of symmetry and then proceeded to create symmetrical shapes with our bodies and created symmetrical dances. It was a beautiful sight in Kindergarten as the children moved silently (and symmetrically) to peaceful piano music.
We also had a ball working their way through a name writing obstacle course. The children got to write their names at stations with the following materials and writing implements: pencil on paper, markers, on chalk and slate, magnetic board, do-a-dot markers and shaving cream!

Poem of the week: "Family"
Family
Families are people
Who care about you.
My family is special
Your family is too!
Mothers and fathers,
And sisters and brothers,
Grandmas and Grandpas
And so many others!
One family is big
While another is small,
Some families have children,
And some, none at all.
When we're together
Or far, far apart
The people I love
Fill the map of my heart.
