Welcome to the 2022-23 academic year - Message from Preeti Nichani!
Dear Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary Families:
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter welcoming you to the 2022/23 academic year at our school. I am excited to lead our school into what I believe will be the best school year ever! My goal is to continue to provide our students with a nurturing and truly challenging school experience so that each student feels they are part of the Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools family.
I have been an active member of the Tuscaloosa City Schools for the past 20 years. I spent almost 13 years as a teacher before I moved into my Assistant Principal position at both Rock Quarry Elementary School & Verner Elementary School. This year marks my sixth year as Principal at Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools-Elementary. My desire to become an administrator came from a strong passion to make a positive impact on an entire school community as well as to help build the capacity of teachers and students as we move forward.
As a parent and an educator, I know that elementary school years are important and critical times for our students. What happens during these years will have a lasting impression on their growth and development. Together we are engaged in doing, in laughter, and the A-Ha’s of learning. I believe that my background as a teacher, my ongoing role as a learner and parent enables me to understand and meet the needs of my students teachers and parents, but ultimately allows me to serve the students and our community.
I am looking forward to meeting each one of you as the school year progresses. You will find that my door is always open and I am always here to support you in any possible way.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Preeti Nichani
Please read carefully!
Dear TMS Parents,
Please be prepared, there may be a delay to enter the building. You will be asked to identify yourself. Anytime a student is checked out, ID ‘s will be verified with the PowerSchool Portal. Please be sure your contact and check-out list is current. Visitors to the building will have to be scanned through our Raptor system. Parents will not be allowed to ask the office to have the child ready for check-out prior to the parent or guardians arrival.
Safety has always been a priority at Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools (TMS) and will continue to be. As a continuation, throughout the school year, there will be routine weather drills, intruder drills, fire drills, and mixed-method searches. TMS administrators will follow the behavior protocols listed in the Tuscaloosa City Schools Code of Conduct. Please review the Code of Conduct with your child when you receive a copy at the beginning of the school year. All discipline and safety measures will be strictly enforced. No exceptions!
Students are not allowed to receive food deliveries. In compliance with federal guidelines, outside food must be in a lunchbox or unmarked bag. The school will not provide those bags.
Please do not text your child on their phone or watch during the school day. If students are not feeling well, they must visit the school nurse who will contact the parent. If you need to speak with or send a message to your child during the school day, please call the office.
The school day begins at 7:55. If students arrive after that time, please escort your student into the building. If students arrive without a parent after 7:55, the parent will be called and required to come check the child into school. The middle school does not have extended day, so students should be picked up on time at 2:40.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the administration at TMS.
Thank you.
Preeti Nichani
MESSAGE from Tuscaloosa City Schools-Child Nutrition Program
Dear Tuscaloosa City School families,
We want to make you aware of a change that could impact many of you next school year. For the last two school years during the pandemic, the federal government ensured meals were free for all students regardless of financial ability, due to its universal free school meals program.
However, that will stop this fall as that funding is set to expire at the end of this month. We are planning on returning to pre-pandemic operations, which means that students at Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools, Verner Elementary, Northridge Middle, Northridge High School and Rock Quarry must fill out free/reduced lunch applications to get free or reduced lunch, based on financial need.
Otherwise, students at those schools will return to paying full price for their meals for the 2022-23 school year. The cost for breakfast will be $1.50 per student and lunch will be $2.65.
The Child Nutrition Program will have the free or reduced lunch application posted online in July. We will notify you once that form is available, as we highly encourage that the form is filled out online prior to the start of school.
NOTE: THE APPLICATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ON-LINE ON JULY 15th. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH, THIS FORM MUST BE COMPLETED.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing your students on the first day of school, August 10, 2022.
