Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 24th November 2017
Preparing for our Autumn Exhibition
Monday was our busiest day of preparation yet as excitement mounts for our Autumn Exhibition next Thursday afternoon. More children from Year 2 enjoyed InspirEd's expert help this week filming their animation of the Great Fire of London. Year 1 spent an exciting day outside on Monday creating huge willow sculptures with Layla's talented guidance. Here are the children concentrating on their creations, but you will have to come along on the day itself to see the finished sculptures - no sneak peaks!
The Exhibition will show case the topic based learning our children have been focusing on all term, and the finishing touches are being made to specific items for parents and carers to enjoy:
- Year 6 have been making websites.
Year 5 have published a book.
Year 3 and 4 are making their classrooms into living museums.
Year 2 have made an animated film.
Year 1 have produced a nature trail.
An art exhibition will take place in the corridor.
The hall will be set up like lunch time, so you can see how school meals are served and taste!
Governors will be serving tea and coffee and be available to talk to.

staffing update
It is with mixed emotions that we inform you that Mr Richardson will be leaving us after Christmas. We are delighted that he has been appointed to his first Headteacher post at Sledmere and Wetwang Primary Schools, but sad that he will be moving on from Ripon Cathedral School.
We are sure that Mr Richardson will enjoy his last few weeks at school, in the meantime Mr Dudman will be working behind the scenes organising replacement staff.
pizza delivery offer
On Wednesday evening the staff worked late on training in one of the school's priorities for improvement - oracy. As a whole school we are focussing on improving the speaking and listening skills of all children.
There is a set of simple, clear 'rules' to follow which help even the youngest children to be more confident. Perhaps you would like to have a try at them at home too?
- Share eye contact
- Speak in full sentences
- Take turns
- Think before you speak
The staff were offered a pizza delivery to the staff room in recognition of their late night working! In the new year we will be hosting a session for parents on how they can support at home.
What do you think?
It's hard to believe that Oscar's has been up and running for less than a term. We would now really like your feedback on how we are doing. Having listened to ideas about the start time, we have already switched to the earlier time of 8am, but it might be that you have further suggestions to help us improve. Of course, positive feedback is also welcome! We aim to send out these questionnaires by email or text, but if you would prefer to complete the survey right now, just use the boxes below. Please be sure to choose the correct one. There is a survey for parents who already use Oscar's and a different one for those of you who have not yet been to the club. Thank you.
please complete if you use oscar's

We are selling our lovely hyacinth pot plants at the Cathedral Food and Gift Fair this Saturday 25th November – please come along and see us and support our fundraising – our stall is situated in the Cathedral Library – upstairs near the refreshments. The plants make lovely Christmas presents and we have a range of sizes and prices.
Thank you to those parents who helped pot the bulbs up this week, they look fabulous!
School Christmas Fair
Our own fair is approaching fast and we really need your help with donations for some of the stalls. Please can you help by sending in good quality tombola items, glass jars (empty or filled), small toys and wrapped sweets. Thank you – we know how much the children enjoy ‘winning’ a Jolly Jar!
Class hampers
Thank you for the donations for the class Christmas hampers – don’t forget the best class hamper (as judged by school staff) wins a prize! More items will be gratefully received! All hampers are raffled on the day of the fair – and are fantastic prizes!
Each class has the following themes
Nursery – Christmas
Reception – Sweet Shop
Year 1 – Toyshop
Year 2 - Yorkshire
Year 3 – Indulgence
Year 4 - Best of British
Year 5 - Around the World

Volunteers needed!
The Friends have put together a list of all the stalls and roles needed at the fair - We really need parents to help on a stall if you can – can you find a friend to help too – it really is fun to be involved and you still get to enjoy the atmosphere of the event. Please see a member of the committee if you can help out
Other jobs include: Santa’s grotto decorating (on the morning of the fair), setting out the school hall and clearing away at the end – every little bit of help is gratefully appreciated - thank you to the parents who have taken on the job of wrapping the presents for the grotto this week – all done from the comfort of their living room!
Raffle tickets
Thank you to those who have returned the money and ticket stubs for the Christmas raffle – if you are still to return your tickets please drop them into the school office.
Tickets will be on sale at the fair too!
Thank you for all your support and help, we can’t wait to see you at the Christmas fair!
