Mr. Mauck's Musings
Reminder: Jasper High School will be virtually learning on Monday, December 19th so students and staff may attend funeral services.
We have a huge weekend of events at JHS. Tonight the boys' basketball team takes on Boonville with a JV tip of 6:30 pm. Tomorrow the Swim and Dive teams will host the Wildcat Invite starting at 9 am. The Wrestlers travel to Bloomington North for the Bo Henry Invite. The Girls basketball team tips off at noon in a county rivalry against Southridge. The boys' basketball team caps off the evening with a 6 pm tip against the Corydon Central Panthers. Good luck to all of our students as they compete this weekend.
On Sunday the Julie and Alayna Schnell visitation will be in the JHS gym from 12-6. Please enter through the West gymnasium entrance. The family has requested donations to the Memorial fund in lieu of gifts. Here is a link if you would like to contribute to Julie and Alayna Schnell Memorial Fund. The funeral will be at Holy Family Church on Monday beginning at 10 am. The service will be live-streamed to accommodate a large crowd. A link may be found on the Holy Family website or linked here Live Stream Link
The school has been overwhelmed with prayers and well wishes we have received. The White River Valley High School students collected free-will donations at their basketball game and delivered them to JHS on Wednesday. We had the opportunity to meet two fantastic young men and listen to their story of the loss of two of there students recently. Their contribution will be given to the Memorial Fund to help endow a scholarship in Julie and Alayna's names.
Last week's newsletter was in a more somber tone but I did want to congratulate the dance team on a first-place finish in hip-hop at their competition last Saturday. We also were treated to our Choir's Christmas Concert on Sunday and the Band's Christmas Concert on Monday. The talent displayed at these events is outstanding. Their dedication and the time spent practicing are evident during the performances. If you have not attended in the past do not miss the spring performances.
We have completed most of our philanthropic endeavors. The food drive was a massive success. The JAG angel tree provided Christmas joy to many students. The toys for Toys for Tots were collected and will be distributed. The county HOSA program raised almost $4000 for families in need this holiday season. I am proud of the spirit of giving our students and staff have adopted.
In the community events please take a look at the Bowling Fundraiser flier and sign-up sheet. The Ireland Queen Contest also has some information listed below.
Finally, there are many items in Lost and Found. These items need to be claimed by Wednesday, December 21st by 3:00. All items left in the Lost and Found will be donated to charity. Please take a look if you are missing items. Have a wonderful weekend. Relax with your families, prepare for the holidays and focus on the things that are most important in your lives.
