Rapid Changes in the Earth's Surface

Third grade researched rapid changes in the Earth's Surface using the Guided Inquiry Method. The students came to the library for an hour at a time over a three week period to complete the process. Their final product was created on the iPads using the ShowMe app. They chose one of the rapid changes and wrote sentences about what they learned and typed them over either a photo they located or an illustration they did. The third graders also cited their sources on their slide.

Bluebonnet Celebration

Third through fifth qualified voters came to the library to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet book. Twenty new books are nominated each year for the Bluebonnet Award. To be eligible to vote students must have read at least five of the nominees. The favorite for our campus was "The Neptune Project". We are still waiting on news of the statewide winner.

Each voter was given a free book and a raffle was held for grand prizes. The winners of the grand prizes are shown below.

Makerspaces Club

This month, our after school Makerspaces Club was able to meet twice. The students created whatever inspired them using Legos. At another meeting, they were challenged to create something using five sheets of aluminum foil and twenty pipe cleaners.

Kate Klise Author Visit

On March 3rd, award winning author Kate Klise will be visiting Northern Hills. Students may order her books and we will have her autograph them. An order form is being sent home and the forms along with payment must be turned in no later than February 16th. Please contact the library if you still need a replacement form.

Fairy/Folk Tale Battle

Second grade kicked off the annual Fairy/Folk Tale Battle. The students were given a list of fifteen titles to read. In April, the classes will compete against each other in a friendly game show type battle on their knowledge of the books. To get ready for reading the titles the students completed a learning activity about the elements of fairy and folk tales on the iPads using the Nearpod app.
