Register for the 2021 WRCCS Conference (virtual)
July 27-28, 2021
The WRCCS Team is excited to announce that the 2021 WRCCS Conference registration is now open! Since we are virtual again this year, we worked hard to find a virtual platform to offer you a more seamless interactive experience, including several types of sessions and the ability to connect with coaches and peers. WRCCS believes that networking with others to building stronger relationships across that state can still be at the center of a virtual conference.
This two-day virtual event offers participants the opportunity to build professional connections and to learn alongside our highly experienced charter school coaches. This is an amazing opportunity to celebrate and share best practices with dedicated educators from around the state and even around the country. We look forward to learning with you!
Conference sessions are based on the WRCCS Charter School Competencies and are designed to be hands-on and interactive; participants are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and build solutions together. Whether your school is just starting out or has been going strong, your whole team will walk away with resources and action items to support your great work.
- Tuesday, July 27th will be all about charter school authorizing and governance boards
- Wednesday, July 28th will be all about charter school leadership and classrooms
All are welcome to attend both days, but know that the content will be highly focused to maximize our time together. There is no fee for attendees for the WRCCS Conference, as we are supported fully by the federal charter schools program grant. Please pass on this learning opportunity to anyone you feel would be interested.
If you are a DPI charter school sub-grantee, please review your requirements regarding conference participation to ensure your team fulfills the proper attendance requirements.

Defend a WRCCS Micro-credential at the 2021 WRCCS Conference
A WRCCS Micro-credential is a mini-certification demonstrating competence, experience, leadership, and growth around specific group of WRCCS School Competencies. Schools can defend a micro-credential for school culture, charter school operations, academic model, charter school governance, community engagement, and financial health.
WRCSS is providing a way to showcase charter school accomplishments in a transparent, credible, and collaborative format that aims to:
- Reinforce specific strengths, skills, and merits of specific charter schools
- Elevate charter school profiles in attracting new families, and
- Help other Wisconsin charter schools connect with specific expertise from other schools
How can I get involved in WRCCS Micro-credential movement?
- Learn more about WRCCS Micro-credentials here. Are you looking to get involved? Actively participate in the next round of WRCCS Micro-credentials by signing up to be a peer review here.
- Looking to earn your own WRCCS Micro-credential? Use this quick survey to express your interest and WRCCS will be in touch with you. The next summit will be held virtually at the 2021 WRCCS Conference, on July 27 and 28.

Summer Months Can be a Great opportunity to Work on Charter School Governance
A charter school governance board is responsible for the academic, financial, and operational quality of the charter school. Successful charter schools in Wisconsin are often governed by an effective board. What are you doing this summer to have a more effective governance board? Many governance boards spend the summer drafting or revising a strategic plan that is complete with a plan for board development as well as clear and transparent school goals. Summer could also be a wonderful opportunity for a board retreat to revisit board roles, responsibility and purpose. When was the last time you reviewed and revised your board and school policies? Effective governance boards often have a committee dedicated to making sure the charter school has policies that match the mission and vision of the school.
WRCCS is here to help you!
Not sure what to work on? Make a copy of this Google Form General Board Assessment and evaluate the needs of your governance board. WRCCS Governance board training focuses on the Charter Governance Board Responsibilities and addresses many of the governance board competencies found in the WRCCS Competencies.
Future effective governance boards receive training in the following areas:
- Developing School Performance Measures for the Charter Contract
- Strategic Planning and and working the plan to guide board meetings
- Drafting Roles and Responsibilities of the board, leaders, teachers, and authorizer
- Routine Board Operations (ex. effective board meetings, reporting)
- School Leadership Evaluation
- Charter Governance Board Evaluation
- Building committees: Governance, Finance, Academic Excellence, etc.
- Recruiting, Nominating, Orienting New Board Members
Are you worried about not having the time to get the board together for a separate training? Check out the WRCCS eCourses for specifically designed asynchronous governance board support.

Review your schools WI Charter Schools Yearbook listing
DPI has given WRCCS the responsibility of keeping the charter schools yearbook up to date, which is also available in a searchable online format.
Please review your charter schools listing for the 2021-22 Yearbook. Launch the online yearbook, search for your school and review all the information we have. If any updates need to be made, please submit them by clicking on the "Request Update To This Listing" button found on your schools listing page (see photo below).
Please note that this request is exclusively for the charter schools yearbook. Your school and/or district is also responsible for keeping up-to-date information in the DPI schools directory, for which you will need to submit similar changes to Kari Tenley Kari.Tenley@dpi.wi.gov 608-267-1071.
If you have any questions, please email me.
Thank you for your help with this project!
