Welcome to Week 12

Greetings Clinton Valley Families,

This week is a busy week for us! We have our literacy auditors back in the building on Monday and Tuesday. They are fantastic people and have helped us streamline our intervention practices. Literacy is an ever-evolving concept and as our children change, we must work hard to change with them. They are here to help ensure that our practices align with research which is an amazing opportunity for us at Chippewa Valley.

Additionally, we have a Cyber Safety assembly for our second- fifth graders that helps bring awareness to internet safety. We also have a PTO meeting on Thursday at 7 pm. Please consider attending if you have the time!

As we get closer to Thanksgiving break, the topic of gratitude is on many of our minds. I wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve Clinton Valley's students and families. I want to also thank YOU for your support and involvement in your child's journey through school. It is not always easy, and there will be bumps in the road, but your involvement is paramount to their success. So, thank YOU for all you do to support what we are doing here at school.

Sincerely,

Kristin Doyle

P.E.N- Parent Education Network Event Grades 3-5

PEN Night for 3-5 families is scheduled for November 30th. Doors open at 5:45 pm. It is a fantastic way to connect with your child at school and play educational games with them. There will be dinner, raffles, and activities planned. Come join in on the fun! A flyer will be coming home, if it hasn't already!

Art Announcement

Hello Families,

Square 1 Art received our students' artwork, and you may begin ordering online! They are still sending catalogs this year, and once those arrive in the mail, I will be sending them home with students. Every student will also receive a free sticker of their artwork with the catalog, even if you do not plan on ordering from Square 1.

To order online, go to http://square1art.com/shop and select "Find or Add Your Child's Art." There you can look up your student's work and start shopping! Orders are due by Thursday, December 1st to be counted toward our fundraiser.

We are using the Square 1 Art fundraiser to increase our Art class budget, so we can purchase new and/or updated supplies for students. This year, I am hoping to replace our paint brushes so all students can create their best work (instead of having to settle for whatever brushes are left in the hodge podge).

Thank you for your support! Let me know if you have any questions.

Music Announcement

Hello Families!

This is just a quick message to save the date for our winter concert for grades first, third, and fifth! The Winter Concert will be on Tuesday, December 13th at 6pm in the Clinton Valley Gym! More information and a formal invitation will be sent home with your student very soon. I hope you are as excited as I am!

Warmly,

Autumn Jarrett

Behavior Flow Chart

In order to support children who struggle behaviorally, we have outlined a behavior response flow chart. Below you will see the process that we follow so that we can ensure that we are offering consistent interventions for those who need additional support with behavior in school. We see behavior as a form of communication, and we will continue to work with children to get to the root of the problem so that it can be appropriately addressed. We believe in offering restorative support in combination with consequences that fit so that children can operate within the boundaries of a school setting. Our goal is to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning so that every child has the opportunity to achieve success. This flowchart is simply a guide and can be adjusted if necessary.

Communication

While PBIS might be the quickest form of communication with your child's teacher, it is not something that I am connected to on a daily basis. If you need to get ahold of me, please either call the office at 586-723-5200 and they will connect you to me or my voicemail or email me at kdoyle@cvs.k12.mi.us. I check my email regularly and receive upwards of 50 messages a day, but I promise to get back to you.

Chippewa Valley and Dakota Little League Basketball

Below is the flyer for the CVS basketball program. They have extended the deadline to Thanksgiving break for sign-up. A physical copy will be coming home.

Lego Robotics Club

We are still in search of a coach for our Robotics Club. If you are interested in leading a super-fun club, please reach out. We need you!

PTO Meeting Schedule

There is a PTO meeting this week Thursday at 7 pm. ALL parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Treats

If your child is celebrating a birthday, or you are looking to donate to classroom parties, please send in store bought items that are sealed and come with an ingredient list. We have many students who have restrictions, and in order to be certain who can participate, it has to be documented. Unfortunately, homemade items will not be accepted for safety reasons.

Lunch Procedures

This year, we are able to lift any Covid restrictions in the lunch room. Therefore, your child does not have an assigned seat. Their classes have assigned tables. We believe that it is important that your child is able to choose who to sit by and socialize with their friends.

We do have specific procedures that we are still working on implementing. Students must stay in their seats at all times and be at a voice level 2 or lower. This means that any form of yelling or screaming is not permitted. It can get very loud in the cafeteria, so we will continue to remind them to keep the noise levels down. There have been instances where we had to implement a level 0 (no talking) and a level 1(whispering) so that they understand the difference.

Additionally, we are working on making sure that those who go through the lunch line, get everything that they need in order to avoid going back. For safety purposes, we do not want them traveling back and forth from their seats. Therefore, soon, we will not permit it. Instead, we will have a traveling basket for those who need additional items. We have been working on this for an entire month. We also understand that the littler ones may need more practice with this, but ultimately, we would like everyone to stay seated for the entire 30 minutes.
