Winter Weather Messaging
Winter weather is here! You live in a climate where roads can become slick and temperatures can be cold and uncomfortable. It is time to prepare your household and your children for winter weather. Schools are preparing too!
If the superintendent calls for a change in school status due to winter weather, a message similar to this (via ParentSquare and StudentSquare) will be sent by 6:00 AM. Other ways to find out if Yakima School District schools are delayed or closed due to weather is:
- check the school or district websites at www.ysd7.org (websites are the first place the information is posted - sometimes by 5:15 a.m.)
- check official district social media accounts www.ysd7.org/socialmedia
- watch the local media (but also check our websites as occasionally media accidentally confuses their report with information from another district).
Please note that if the Yakima School District calls for a delay, buses will also be delayed. Note that winter road conditions can delay buses further. Only four of our bus routes have snow routes as they are on a hill, so be sure to know if your route has a snow route and where you should meet your bus should snow routes be called. For more info, visit www.YSD7.org/busroutes or the transportation department at 509-573-7200.
If you feel your contact information is not current, please contact your school immediately.
Stay warm and stay safe this winter!

The Yakima School District is looking for applicants that are dedicated to providing a safe, positive learning environment in which every student shall be valued, challenged, encouraged and have the opportunity to become a productive citizen.
Our Applications Specialist, Jennifer Menieur-Gonzalez, is more than happy to help answer your questions! Please contact her at email@example.com or 509-573-7062.
Attendance Is Important
ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT! Studies have shown that attendance is one of the highest impacting factors for student success. When a student has an unexcused absence early in the year, it tends to accelerate levels of truancy later in the year and negatively impact future grades.
In the new district wall hanging calendar (mailed to your home), we have added learning days displayed at the top of every month to help you keep track of your student(s) attendance success. We also have a digital version that can be accessed at https://bit.ly/3pUgw7a.
Welcome to ParentSquare!
The Yakima School District is now using the ParentSquare platform for the district, school, and classroom communications, primarily with email, text, and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent/guardian, using their email address and/or phone number (use the email and phone number that you have provided to your school and is in our Skyward Student Information System).
How To Sign Up
Go to www.parentsquare.com/districts/1061. You can also install the ParentSquare app on your smartphone and follow the prompts to sign up.
Tip! If your contact details aren't recognized, contact your school to get them added. After they update your information in their database, the new contact details will appear in ParentSquare after the next daily sync, and you will be able to create an account.
Tip! Use your email or the phone number that you have provided to your school and is in our Skyward Student Information System to set up your account otherwise ParentSquare will not be able to link your account to your student's information. Your email/phone number must match contact details in the school's database for this to work.
The Yakima School District has received new information from the State Department of Health about COVID-19 health and safety guidance for schools this fall.
