About the war of 1812

The war of 1812 was a military conflict, lasting for two-and-a-half years, between the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain an Ireland, its North American colonies and its American indian allies.

Causes of The war of 1812 -

-British interference and naval blockage

-Americans believe british push native americans to fight settlers

-western members of the house of representatives want to expand into Canada

-British impressed american sailors and forced them to work on british ships


Effects of the war of 1812 -

-Heroism of jackson, perry, and others increased American patriotism

-Native Americans weakened

-Growth of U.S. manufacturing

-U.S. prove it could defend itself against the worlds strongest military power

Barbary Pirates

Were pirates who operated from north Africa, based primarily in the ports of Sale, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli. This area was known in Europe as the Barbary Cost, a term derived from the names of its barber inhabitants. The Barbary pirates would take over the ship and hold the crew members for ransom.

Embargo Act

Thomas Jefferson imposes an Embargo act on Great Britain. But results in an economic disaster for american merchants and then it is discontinued in 1809. The purpose of the Embargo Act was to prohibit U.S. vessels from trading with european nations.
