Superintendent Northern's Message
In reflection, I can remember my first grade teacher, my second grade teacher, the intermediate teacher and what kind of paddle she had. (:-)) Boy do I remember Mrs. Rogers! She was the 8th grade English teacher that we had been warned about because she was hard and she was strict; as a result, I am better. Likewise, I remember the custodians, the cafeteria workers, the principals and everyone else who made school a "home" for at least eight hours of my day. YOU are the memory maker today. We thank you! They thank you! WHAT A DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE! This week and always, we celebrate YOU!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Jeff Northern,
LISD Superintendent
(P.S. I remember many more teachers, but figured you didn't want to hear about them all. Please keep making memories!)

LISD is Spotlighting Our Speech Pathologists!
SPECO Speech Pathologists!
LISD is celebrating our Speech Pathologists this month because May is Better Speech & Hearing Month. It is with a sad heart that one of our Speech Pathologists passed away on Sunday. Annette Gregg went to be with the Lord before we wanted her to, but His timing is perfect. We feel that Annette would still want us to share that our Speech Pathologists feature because it provides us an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the Speech-Language Pathologist's role in this effort in our students' success. South Plains Educational Co-op currently employs eight speech pathologists that serve over 300 students in LISD and eight other school districts. Besides Levelland ISD, they provide speech therapy services to Anton, Smyer, Ropesville, Meadow, Sundown, Whiteface, Morton, Whitharral. Our Speech Pathologists identify, assess, and treat communication disorders and play an important role in the diagnosis and intervention of autism. Public school SLPs provide services for children three years of age to age twenty-two. Early diagnosis and intervention are key in successfully supporting individuals with communication difficulties. Although there is a wide variety of speech impairments, the most common in school-aged children are articulation, receptive & expressive language, pragmatic language, fluency, and challenges relating to hearing impairments. Our Speech-Language Pathologists are Staci Bearden, Kinsey Gordon, Cassi Lowrey, Supervisor Lynetter Major, Leslie Hounshell, Jeannie Keen, Vicki Davis, & the late Annette Gregg.
