Sawnee Elementary
August 2022 Newsletter
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
What an amazing start to the 2022-2023 school year! We have enjoyed getting to know our new students and see returning faces. Our staff is working diligently to establish routines and procedures - it is the Sawnee Way. Soon we will welcome volunteers in the building to help with a variety of activities.
Some important events are coming up to finish out August. First, we have Family Connect Night on August 17th. On this night, we encourage you to spend time together as a family doing something that makes you happy and filled. We look forward to seeing and hearing how you spend this time together unplugging and connecting.
On August 23rd, we will have our Curriculum Night. Teachers are working hard to provide you with a face to face option and a virtual option. We will host two sessions to provide families with an opportunity to visit more than one classroom, if you have more than one student. Please check with your child's teacher for more details.
As we close out August, please be on the lookout for information from our PTO for our annual fundraiser - Sawnee SOARS. We are extremely grateful for the support our community provides to make Sawnee such a special place.
On behalf of our entire staff, it is an honor to serve your children.

Counseling Information
Meet your Sawnee Counseling Department team:
My name is Meagan Soles and I am so delighted to be a School Counselor at Sawnee Elementary! I am a first-year counselor this year and I recently moved from Atlanta where I received my M.Ed. in School Counseling at Georgia State University. I have also received my certification as a National Certified Counselor. For undergrad, I attended the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega where I obtained a B.S in Psychology. In my spare time I enjoy lazy days at home with my cat Islay, hiking, painting, writing, or hanging out with friends. I am looking forward to supporting you and your children throughout the year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if there is anything you need. GO CHIEFS!
Hi - my name is Deana Brown. I am so excited to be joining the Sawnee Elementary family! My husband and I are very proud of our 2 wonderful daughters that are products of this great school system. I have worked as a professional school counselor in Forsyth County Schools since 2007. Prior to transitioning to public education, I worked in clinical settings including outpatient settings, hospitals, and crisis stabilization units. I have also served as both an administrator and faculty member in higher education training future counselors. I am incredibly honored to be entrusted with your most precious children and truly enjoy helping each grow and develop into successful and happy individuals.
Hello, I am Bonnie O’Neil and very excited to start my fourth year at Sawnee Elementary as a part-time counselor. I originally retired in 2013 after 12 years of teaching in Special Education classes and 22 years as School Counselor. I then worked in several Forsyth Schools as a long-term substitute in these areas, as well as in regular classes. Three years ago, Mr. Hershey asked me to join the Sawnee family as a part-time counselor. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Sawnee has a fabulous staff. I look forward to seeing our students each day. We have great support from our parents. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work at Sawnee Elementary.
Hi, my name is Brandi Bouland. I'm pleased to be returning to Sawnee Elementary for the second year as a Guidance teacher. After graduating with a degree in Psychology from Georgia Southern University, I was the counselor at a psychiatric children's hospital. Later I attended University of West Georgia where I earned a dual degree in special and early childhood education. After teaching students with emotional behavior needs for two years I moved to Gwinnett County where I was employed as a Resource teacher for four years. My son Parker is a recent graduate of Sawnee Elementary. My younger son Bennett will be a rising first grader. I'm looking forward to another amazing year at Sawnee!!
Hi! My name is Kristin Iorg. I have been married to my wonderful husband Cale for almost 14 years and we are the proud parents to four wonderful children, Vayda (12) Loa (8) Josie (6) and Leif (4). I graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in TeleCommunications and Film and Psychology. I am currently headed back to school this January to acquire a Masters in School Counseling and I am so excited to get started! I love to be outdoors, hiking, exploring, dancing, singing and being with my wonderful family. I have such a deep love for my own children that spilled over into the wonderful children of Sawnee. Last year was my first year with the Sawnee family and I absolutely love this school and the entire community of teachers and students.
