I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Gives me Strength. Philippians 4:13
Dear St. John Families,
Welcome to our weekly newsletter! The link for this digital newsletter will come to your inbox every Thursday. It will contain information on what is coming up over the next week. It will also provide you links for all that you should need to complete sign ups, any trainings, etc.
So far our first two days have been filled with getting to know each other, settling into a routine, and having fun! If you haven’t already, make sure to like and follow our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Jagwear Mondays Every Monday students are invited to wear spirit wear tops and uniform bottoms. This will go without saying each Monday. If by chance we are off school on Monday, then students can wear spirit wear on Tuesdays. Spirit wear should only be worn on the first day of the week, unless a free dress pass has been turned in. Every other day of the week Kindergarten-8th grade students should be in a collared shirt.
Lunch supplies Please make sure that your student has the needed items in his/her lunch box. We know that there are times when everyone forgets, so we are asking for donations for paper plates, spoons, forks, and bottled water. We also like to have some lunches available for students who may forget their lunch. Snacks, mac and cheese cups, anything that we can provide students when this happens. These items are kept in the kitchen in the gym for quick access when needed. You can drop off any donation with me before or after school, or give it to your classroom teacher. We greatly appreciate in advance any donations for these items.
Backpack Blessing Mass We invite all families to join us for mass this weekend. Father Stan will offer a special Backpack Blessing at each mass, so remember to bring your backpacks! The blessing will be for all-aged students returning to school this fall. Mass is at 4:30 PM on Saturday night, and 8:00 AM & 10:00 AM on Sunday. Wear your Jagwear too so parishioners know you are a proud student of St. John the Baptist School!
PTF- Our first PTF meeting is this coming Monday, August 22nd at 6:30pm. We will meet in the Munier Center. The used uniforms are still up and available for purchase so plan on attending the meeting and shopping the uniform/spirit wear table! Everyone is a part of PTF, so everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings and events. Babysitting is also provided for each meeting so you are welcome to bring your child with you. Also, students of parents who attend PTF will receive a free dress pass for the next day. Hope to see you on Monday evening.
Auction Free Dress Days Each year at our Dinner Auction, we offer all families the opportunity to purchase a "Free Dress Package." This package includes a monthly free dress day. Students will be given a reminder card for the free dress theme and date. If you are interested in purchasing this package for your child, it is $30 per family. The first free dress day is Wednesday, August 31st if you want in on it. You can send the payment in an envelope labeled PTF Free Dress Days and we will get it to Stephanie Diekemper, PTF treasurer.
Scrip Scrip is a fundraising opportunity that requires no selling and no extra out-of-pocket expense for you. Scrip is a program that allows you to purchase gift cards to use not only for gifts but also for your regular shopping. You pay the face value of the card & an additional percentage goes toward the school. For example, you pay $25 for a $25 Applebee's gift card, and the school earns $2.00. You can even designate part of the $2.00 towards your family's tuition. We do have gift cards (see list below) in stock, and we will submit backpack orders every first and third Monday. Our next order will be placed on Monday, August 22nd. If you would like to purchase any Script that we have in stock, please contact Mrs. Dudkowski. If you would like to place a Scrip order, please print out the attached scrip order form and send it into the office.
Mike Jone’s Golf Tournament Our Mike Jones Memorial Golf Tournament is this Saturday, August 20th. Please support our Athletic Department by purchasing raffle tickets for this cooler of booze or a $50 Top Golf gift card. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Contact Angelo @ 314-971-091 or email@example.com. You can also Venmo us @stjohnsad. Please return your tickets to school tomorrow, Friday, August 19.Below is a picture of our cooler of booze for our raffle. Thank you in advance for supporting our Athletic Department’s largest fundraiser of the year!
Child Protection It is diocesan policy that all volunteers and parents who attend field trips must complete the Child Protection program. If you are new to it, then you complete the online Initial Child Protection Course. Then once that is completed, annually you will need to complete the online refresher course. Please see the attachment on how to complete both of these. This needs to be completed by September 30th or the first event that you attend.
Playground Duty & Play Date Events Two ways that you can begin earning PIP hours is by helping with playground duty and help organize our playdates for future jaguars.
Playground Duty is from 11:30-12:20 daily. Parent volunteers are with teachers and staff to watch that our students are safe and behaving while playing at recess. We use a Signup Genius for this each month for parents to pick the dates that work best for their schedules. The links for August and September are below. Please make sure to complete your Child Protection training and use the link to sign up.
Playdates for Future Jags-we like to invite families who have younger children to come and play at St. John’s and spend some time with our students. We are looking for a few people to help plan these dates, organize an activity or two for the playdate, and invite our future jags. If you are interested and willing to help, please let me know.
Teacher’s Lounge Amazon Wish List We are thankful and blessed that we have started receiving items off of our Teacher Lounge Amazon Wish List! This list will give us the opportunity to keep our Teachers Lounge stocked with snacks, drinks, supplies, etc. for the 2022-2023 school year. The Amazon Wish List can be located at the link below and will continually be updated with new items as the year continues. Any items purchased from the list will be shipped directly to school.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of our staff and faculty!
Jagwear Orders Spirit wear orders are scheduled to be delivered to school next week. We will send the items home with your student once we get them in.
Formal Agreement Form In today’s blue folder, you will find a formal agreement form. Each item previously was a separate form and we have combined all of these documents into one to make it easier on all parents and less paperwork for us to keep. Each section is pretty much spelled out with the information that you need, however, if you have any questions, please let me know. Please return this form to school by Wednesday, August 24th.
Yearbooks If your family purchased a yearbook(s) last year, you will find them in today’s blue folder. We do have extras available for purchase if you did not order one. They are $15 a piece. Please send in your payment in an envelope marked yearbook to the school office and we will send home a yearbook. Thank you to Mrs. Dudkowski for putting together our yearbook this year!
Sports Families Sports families - We need your help to share all of our amazing athletes in action this year. We wish our sports photographers could make it to every game but our staff is spread thin with all the teams and different sports we are offering this year. We are hoping you can help us by sharing your photos via text at 618-719-4920 and 314-420-5840. When you send you pictures please let us know what team is playing or practicing so we can share the information along with the photos. Thank you in advance for your help! Go Jags!
3 year old Preschool Soccer We would love to be able to continue offering a 3 year old soccer program for our Jaguar Cubs, however, we are in need of someone to run it. We have a program already put together with a schedule, so the coach would not have to come up with what to do unless that person would like to make changes. We simply need someone to lead the practices. The program will run for 6 weeks and will be held on our back field here at school. If you are willing to help, please contact Angelo Alvarez @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grandparents Day Grandparents Day will be held on Friday, September 9th. We will be sending out invites next week, so last call to submit your child’s grandparent information. Use the Google Form below to submit grandparent’s information.
Have a great evening!
~Mrs. Sarah Lanham
