Orana Catholic Primary School
Term 3, Week 9, 2021.
God, let me play well but fairly.
Help me to learn something that matters
once the game is over.
Let competition make me strong but never hostile.
Always let me help my opponent up.
Never catch me rejoicing in the adversity of others.
If I know victory, allow me to be happy; if I am denied, keep me from envy.
Remind me that sports are games.
If through athletics I set an example,
let it be a good one.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last weekend many of our Year 6 students made the Sacrament of Confirmation. Congratulations to these students who received the final sacrament of initiation. Thank you to Father Thai, Magdalene (our parish sacramental coordinator), Mrs Alp, Mrs Packer, Mrs Vinci, Miss Dreyer and Year 6 families for the time they put into assisting in these children’s preparation. Thank you to staff and community members who attended to support them. After Mass this weekend, these students will receive their certificates and will celebrate this occasion at the parish.
The Catholic Performing Arts Festival Concert “Spirit of the Arts” was held at RAC Arena on Monday night. Orana has been recognised for our excellence in Music. Orana won the prestigious Zenith Award for the 5th consecutive year. This is a phenomenal achievement and is awarded for overall excellence in performance and participation in the spirit of the Performing Arts Festival. Congratulation to our music students below and Sarah for her music leadership.

In addition, Lara Vytialingam is the recipient of an Outstanding Award recommended by the Adjudicator and Lara performed at the Festival Concert. These achievements are a testament to the commitment of and students, parents and our music teacher Sarah Draper. Well done to everyone involved.
Open Night was a great success and it was positive to see so many of our community members at this event. The Book Fair was also a popular attraction. It was an excellent opportunity to come and share your child’s learning with them and an experience which the students cherish and enjoy. Thank-you to the school band and Ms Draper for the ambiance created. Thank you to the staff, the graduation fundraising committee and all those who attended. Your presence at events like this tells your child that you value learning and in turn this helps your child to develop a positive and sustained positive attitude towards their own learning.
Today we hosted our Grandparents’ Day Mass. We celebrated the gift of our grandparents and the unique and special impact these special people have on our families. It was joyous to witness the interactions between generations of our families as they shared in Mass, visited classrooms and had morning tea. Thank-you to Father Thai, Deacon John, Mrs Alp, Miss Mouttet, Mrs Fernando, Mrs Perrigo and all involved in making this occasion so special.
Schools host many events where parents, carers and family members are encouraged to attend and part of this often includes proud moments where photographs are taken. This is great as it demonstrates pride in our children and helps to tell of the experience at home or share with family members or parents who were not able to make the event. Please be aware though, that consideration needs to be given if posting the photos on social media. Parents are entitled to post a photo of their own child if that is what they wish, however photos that include other children should not be posted without permission from those children’s parents. Please continue to take and enjoy photos of your child’s achievements but please reconsider posting these online if other children are involved.
As we come close to the end of another term, it is important that we recognise that students’ energy levels are plateauing but it is also important to remember that high expectations create more successful learners with better standards. Please ensure uniforms continue to be worn correctly and that all school items are brought to school so that learning can continue at a high level, all the way to the end of the term.
Community members are invited and welcome to come and support the students at the Sports’ Carnival next Wednesday. The weather forecast is for a warm and sunny day.
God bless and take care.

Grandparents' Mass and Morning Tea
Thank you to our wonderful grandparents that celebrated with us today. It was special in so many ways. We would also like to thank families for the generous donations for morning tea. They certainly were a blessing.
Our Leadership Groups - Orana Service
Our team takes on tasks which benefit the school community. As part of our role we raise and lower the flags each day. The students are formally educated in the meaning of the Australian flags and how to treat them respectfully. The team supports whole school events by setting up and packing equipment as required. Throughout this year, we have provided assistance to the grounds staff by distributing and collecting the bins each day. Being a new team this year, it has been great to navigate this ever evolving group with our students.
From our Parish of Saints John & Paul
Fr Thai is back from his holiday with many exciting stories about his travels in the beautiful north of our state.
Please visit the Parish website for the latest information on weekend Masses.

With school holidays fast approaching, and the weather getting warmer (fingers crossed), many families are starting to prepare for the holiday away. The often-long car trip can often be intimidating for parents. The combination of energetic kids, and prolonged periods of time in a confined space seems like a recipe for disaster. However, by preparing in advance, being flexible to change and following these tips compiled by the Quirky Kid team, your long-distance travel experience can be more positive, rewarding, and fun for children and parents.
