Bencik's Buzz

On behalf of our Hometown staff, we are wishing each of our families a happy holiday season. Enjoy the holiday break, take some time to celebrate one another and look forward to seeing you all back in 2022. We will resume classes on January 6th.

Holiday Dress Down Days

Our last holiday dress down day is tomorrow. The flyer is attached.

Holiday Season

When we return on January 6th, if your child is not feeling well, please consider keeping them home until they are well.

Morning drop off

Please be cautious as you are dropping off your students in the morning. We have cars coming through the parking lot. Please have your child walk on the sidewalk the entire way and DO NOT cut through the parking lot.

Breakfast

Starting when we return from winter break, we will be going back to serving breakfast at 8:10am in the MPR room. The breakfast bags will not be going home with students starting on January 6th. If your child would like to receive breakfast, they should arrive at 8:10am to eat at school.

Shield Parent Portal

If you would like to be able to view Shield Covid results, the attached flyer gives directions on how to set up the parent portal. Please follow directions in the flyer.

Lunches

If you bring your child late to school, (after 9am) you must provide a lunch for your child. Our orders are sent over at 9am. We do not have any extra ordered.

Vaccination Cards

We recommend that each family begin to upload their child's vaccination card to Skyward. We have provided directions for doing so. If you have questions, please email or call the office.

Masks

Please make sure your child has extra masks with them for the day. We ask that each family pack their child's backpack with additional mask in case theirs breaks or gets dirty.

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Maripat Coughlin

Meet Our Staff: Mrs.Coughlin

Every week we will shine a spotlight on one of our own amazing staff members. Meet Mrs. Maripat Coughlin.

How long and what grades have you taught?

This is my 33rd year at Hometown School. I have taught 2nd and 4th grade. I have also taught small groups of reading and math support as a Title 1 teacher for grades K-5. I also worked as a librarian for a couple of years.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I would love to travel back to Italy, Greece, and Ireland with my family. They are three of my favorite places and I would like to see them again with my kids. I would also like to rent an RV and travel out west. I think that would be a fun way to explore our beautiful country.

What is the best thing about working at Hometown?

The best thing about Hometown is the people. I have had the pleasure of working with the best, most hardworking teachers and staff. All decisions are made with the kids' best interest in mind. Also, the kids and families in Hometown are amazing. I have always felt very supported by the Hometown parents and community. I have recently started experiencing teaching the children of former students. It is so fun to see former students as parents raising their children where they were raised and went to school.

What is your favorite food?

I enjoy almost all types of food, however given a choice I would probably choose a homemade Italian meal. My daughter and I are trying to learn how to make pasta. We are not quite there yet, but we will keep trying.

Who is someone you admire and why?

I admire my parents the most. They were excellent role models for marriage and family. They always encouraged my brothers and I to find a balance between working hard and enjoying family and friends. They encouraged us to continue our education as much as possible and to travel whenever the opportunity presented itself.

If you see Ms.Coughlin around our school, make sure you say hello!!!

Winter MAP Testing

We will begin our winter MAP testing the week of January 10th. Each grade level will be testing at different times.
