ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
Happy Spring!
While some kids are wearing shorts, thrilled to not be responsible for their winter layers, others are bemoaning the mud and “smells” of spring. We’re seeing kids share their excitement for the changing season. For a four day week, CCS has been extremely busy!
March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the amazing individuals in our lives and throughout the world with Down Syndrome. Students and staff at CCS wore fun mismatched or crazy socks to represent their support and celebration of WDSD. We took the time to reflect on the valuable contributions people with Down Syndrome make in our community and the positive impact these individuals have in each of our daily lives.
A group of 12 middle school students participated in workshops at the Burlington Tech Center sponsored by Vermont Works for Woman and Rosie’s Girls. Girls Tech! exposes students to careers that are non-traditional for women, to help them make more informed decisions about high school course selection and career pathways. Industry professionals from various fields will motivate and inspire students to think about possible career paths through safe experiential learning activities including aerospace engineering, autobody, welding, and baking.
Mr. Kent has been reviewing the GaGa Ball rules in PE class to prepare students for the construction of our outdoor pit once the ground dries. This is a project made possible by a Fall PTO grant.
We rounded out the week with a visit from Counterpoint Chorus, a choral group from Montpelier, who worked with our students in a workshop-style format that culminated in a coordinated all school musical assembly. Students performed with the chorus a series of songs that promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this special event.
Tomorrow, there is no school for students, but we will continue to host families for Parent-Teacher conferences. This is a perfect time to celebrate student accomplishments and set new goals that will carry students through to the end of the year.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

The Stars Beneath our Feet by David Barclay Moore
Voices that belong to authors can be powerful inspiration for our students. David Barclay Moore encourages students to write, telling them that their stories can hold the power to strengthen them as individuals.
See You in the Cosmos by Jack Cheng
A golden ipod, an opportunity to teach about what life is like on earth, an unexpected yet epic road trip, and a space launch. What more could a reader ask for? This book was chosen because it showed one of our readers an example of someone else's voice; one that reminds us that we all share the same amazing planet.
