Should Children Have Social Media?
I Disagree With This Statement! By: Anna Cook
Point 1: Cyber-Bullying
Cyber-Bullying happens everywhere. Many kids that are Cyber-Bullyed don't know how to deal with it, meaning that they may not tell an adult. Because of this, the bullying may not stop. That can sadly lead to depression, odd behavior and even suicide. If kids are on social media, they can feel more confident that they are not face to face with who they are bullying and that they don't have to see the outcome of their bullying. Also, they can make a fake account and name so that they are not known to the victim. This also makes it harder to identify the bully to stop the bullying;.
Point 2: Cyber Stalking
Cyber Stalking can occur while kids or teens are online or using Social Media. A Cyber Stalker could be referred to as menacing or rotten person. A Cyber Stalker can target a child and act like someone their age or act like a friend of theirs. They will ask personal questions like the child's name, age, and address. Some kids don't suspect the Cyber Stalker to be who they really are so they may give the Cyber Stalker the information they seek, and the target and/or child will regret it later. This is one way that leads to kids being kidnapped.
Point 3: Bad or Inapropiate Content
If your child is on a site like Facebook, some unwanted things can pop up. You can't control everything that comes up. For example, your child could be on YouTube watching a video of puppies and kittens, and on the side you can see suggested videos. Your child may click on a few of those videos and next thing you know, they can be watching a trailer for a horror movie. Parents may be able to turn on the "Safety" mode and feel satisfied and relaxed, but sadly there isn't a Safety mode on social media.
Point 1 Picture
This picture represents Cyber-Bullying because it is the word "Bully" on the "ENTER" key. It is replacing the word "ENTER" as if giving the Cyber-Bully an easy access to target and bully someone online.
Point 2 Picture
This picture represents Cyber Stalking because there is a person in a hoodie. The hoodie shields their face from view making you unable to identify the person. Covering the entire picture there is green letters written and arranged a certain way to make it look like they are from a computer or from online.
Point 3 Picture
This picture represents Bad or Inappropriate Content by noting that there are a few dangerous or apps, probably some that are social media sites. It may not be the app or site creator that makes it bad, but it is the delusional, sick people that make it bad.
