It's good to be a Royal.

August 21, 2013

Welcome back. Today I officially feel like I am back to school. I am starting to pull things out of storage and think about the upcoming year.

Make sure you stop up in the media center to see all of the new things we have happening this year. It will be a busy place-- watch for new iPads, Chromebooks and piles of new books!

Do something to make this a great year.

Online Newsletter

Lifelong learning is essential for personal growth-- This year I will be communicating with students, parents and staff using an online newsletter. Links to the newsletter will be on the media center webpage. I will make the newsletter using a free website-- www.smore.com.

One of my roles as the media specialist is to encourage staff and students to work with new technology tools. Staff and students, think about making your own online newsletter using Smore. Come to the media center to ask for help with your creation!

Students-- This would be great for a project-- it is one way to design a website.

Staff-- This would be a great way to communicate with students and parents. Or, you could have your students make a Smore to demonstrate learning.

Below are a few of the features you can add to a Smore newsletter.

Keep Informed

Everyone can learn-- Visit the media center webpage to keep yourself informed.

Here you can--

  • find help with research, technology and book selection
  • access links for classroom projects and school databases
  • keep updated on what is happening in the media center.

There is Still Time to Read!

People thrive when they feel connected, supported and affirmed-- This summer staff and students joined together in a challenge to read eleven books. You can join us! Stop by the media center in September and October and ask to checkout a summer reading title.

How many can you read by October 31st? Any one of the titles would be a great choice for your first book of the new school year.

More information coming on the book discussions and party we will have to celebrate our reading.

Visit the Summer Reads Website for a full list of titles, book trailers, discussion questions and MORE!

Find a Perfect Match

Change is an opportunity for growth-- This year we will start using a new library card catalog-- Destiny Quest. There are many things that make this new catalog great, but I am most excited about the way students and teachers will be able to interact with their book selections.

The catalog allows students and teachers to--

  • keep personal reading logs
  • view the top circulated titles
  • search using specific resource lists
  • research school databases with one click
  • submit book reviews

To log on to Destiny: destiny.isd728.org

Access the catalog with your school username and password.
