Special thanks to our community volunteers for taking the time to give this experience to our students: Dr. Marc Slaton, Leslie Means, Daniel Brunner, Ms. Maxine Rembusch, Al Riggle, Casey Brewster, Charlotte Boswell, Thalia Sema, LeAnne Walker, William Snowden, Mr. Jacob , Dawn Mays, Debbie Inman, Brent Inman, Dale Martin, and Michael Everitt.
Intro to Business Class
Ms. Dodds visited to share the upcoming Pitch Competition where a 3 minute video and a 1 page executive summary must be turned in by February 6th to compete in the 1st round. Scottsburg High School is in Region 2, and from our Region, there will be 10 teams selected to compete in the second round that will be held at Mid American Science Park in Scottsburg somewhere in the time frame of March 4 - 15th.
The grand prize winner in the state competition which will be held in April, will win $10,000 per person on the up to 3 person team, full tuition to an in-state school, and a paid internship as well.
SHS is very excited to have this opportunity in addition to the Maverick Challenge, where we have had very successful teams compete at the State level last school year. The 1st round of the Maverick Challenge will take place in a few weeks, and the top 2 Scottsburg High School teams will be chosen to compete against Austin High School's top 2 teams in January. Last year SHS had a team of Treyton Brown, Sam Everitt, and Dillyn Whittymore who won a total of $700 in the Maverick Challenge and competed well at the State Competition after winning the local SHS competition, and the County Competition with their F.A.R.E. business idea.
Ms. Dodds spoke of the opportunity, and then did a very fun class idea to encourage innovation and team work as students where asked to compete to construct the tallest structure made of spaghetti, tape, and string, and have a marshmallow sit on top of their structure.
