A Note from the Principal

Dear North Families,

Our second week of school has been exciting and fun!! Our students have jumped right in as if they were never away!

We have welcomed many new students this week, so I will be leaving most of the beginning of the year information in this newsletter to ensure everyone has had a chance to see it. School may look a little different this year with some of our policy and procedural changes that have been implemented according to new guidelines, but I assure you we are dedicated to providing your child a high quality education in a loving environment.

Below, you will find our beginning of the year information as well as links to the WSISD and North Facebook pages and the WSISD website. These resources will provide up to date and valuable information.

Please do not hesitate to contact me, Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Barber, or Ms. Bautista if you have any questions or suggestions.

Love, Mrs. Bitters

Virtual Learning is Going Strong

We've worked out the beginning of the year kinks in our virtual learning program and everything is now going well. We are so proud of our students that are attending class each day and completing all assignments! Keep up the great work.

Families that prefer for their student to return to in-person learning will be allowed to do so on Monday, Sept. 28th. A form was emailed to all virtual families on Friday.

This is the email that was sent.

We have now completed the first full week of virtual learning. If you feel In Person learning would better suit your student please complete this form by Wednesday, Sept. 23rd. Once you complete the form your student can start In Person on Sept. 28th. The campus will follow up with you to let you know your child's teacher.

Students should not walk to school or be dropped off before 7:00 am. For safety reasons, we cannot have students outside on the campus before the school opens. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you arrive after 3:00 pm to pick your child up for early dismissal, please park across the street so you do not get blocked in by our daycare and school buses. You will not be able to get out easily.

We are excited to present our new logo as we prepare to open next year as North Elementary STEAM Academy! Our staff has been preparing over the last twelve months by attending various professional development trainings, utilizing new instructional materials, and implementing an elementary engineering curriculum. North staff will implement an integrated STEAM curriculum as an innovative approach in order to continue inspiring and challenging our students. We will be sharing more with you soon as our journey continues to unfold.

The video below is a glimpse of our journey into becoming a STEAM Academy. We are so excited about this year and what is to come!!

This year your child will be challenged to think critically, be creative, collaborate with peers, and communicate their learning through a variety of methods. Hopefully, you will hear them discuss the design process that has been implemented for working through many instructional activities. The design process is used during our engineering units, in makerspace, science class, many cross-curricular classroom units of study. The design process is also used for finding solutions to many real-life problems and for working on those solutions in a process of continuous improvement.
