Reignier Catholic School Newsletter
10th August 2022 - Issue # 7
WELCOME
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora whānau,
What a great start to the term. It has been great to see our tamariki back and ready to learn, despite all the winter illnesses that are around. Colds and flu are seeing us have low numbers on and off at the moment with this week seeing some of the highest absences we've recorded in a while. Thank you to all our parents who are being so vigilant and working with us to try and keep us all healthy.
This term is turning out to be quite busy for our students. Further into the newsletter you will see our upcoming events. At the moment our Year 6 students are leading their house tamariki in preparation for the Music Festival at the end of the term. Please mark this date on your calendar now as it will be a great family night out.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Fletcher-Jenssen and all the members of the Board. I have enjoyed working with each and every one of them over the last 12 months. Their commitment to the faith and success for all tamariki has been evident in the hours that have been put in over their tenure as Board Members. We are also very excited to welcome the new members to the Board and I am looking forward to working alongside them over the next three years. Over the coming newsletters we will introduce them to you in more detail.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge our young people who are undertaking their 1st Holy Communion lessons with the support of their whānau. As a school, we are honoured and blessed to be able to walk alongside you. We look forward to celebrating with you on the 4th September and then again at our whānau mass on the 11th September.
God Bless.
Mrs Shanks
SCHOOL BOARD TRIENNIAL ELECTION
As you know we recently called for nominations for parent and staff representatives for the Board. Nominations closed on Wednesday, 3 August, and, as the number of valid nominations equalled the number vacancies we were seeking to fill, all four parent nominees and the staff nominee were duly elected.
Elliot Brunton, Foo Cheong Chan, Dave Lim and Andrea Yee were elected as the parent representatives and Debra Gibson is returning as the staff representative. In a non-voting election, the new board takes office seven days after the nominations close, this being the 10th August and will meet for the first time later this month.
Also leaving the board at this time are two of our Proprietors representatives, Monique Jeffares and Fr Barry Scannell. In terms of our Proprietors representatives, Christina Perry will be continuing on the board and the other Proprietors representatives will be confirmed shortly.
Parent representatives standing down are myself and Rory O’Neill. I want to thank and acknowledge the contribution of our outgoing members. Monique has been a valued, caring and hardworking member of the board since she joined us in November 2020. Always at the front of her mind has been the wellbeing of the students, staff and community. With her undoubted communication skills she has made significant contributions to our strategic direction, in both the academic and special character areas.
Rory has been with us since June 2019. He has been able to use his considerable financial acumen for the benefit of the school. Rory’s calm, considered and thoughtful approach to governance has been of real benefit to the school and more personally to me in my role of Presiding Member. I know other board members always appreciated his input.
I wish Rory and Monique and their families every success in the future.
The new board will introduce themselves to you in the coming weeks and I wish them every success.
Thank you all for support over the years.
Warm Regards
Chris Fletcher-Jenssen
Outgoing Presiding Member

ENROLMENTS FOR 2023, 2024 & BEYOND
If you have a child who will be turning 5 in 2023 or in 2024 and beyond, it is not too early to get them enrolled or indicate that you are intending to enrol your child at Reignier Catholic School.
Please call into the school office to get a preference form, make an appointment with Fr Barry to have this signed and drop back to school. Without this form, we cannot accept your child's enrolment.
This also enables the school management team to forecast staffing for next year and the year after.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Teresa Shanks on 844 2144.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
You will be aware that this has been in the news a lot recently. As a kura, our number one priority is for your child to be at school. It is known that when a child is present at school and participating in their learning that this leads to progress. If your child is absent, you need to inform the school as to why by either phoning the office or using the app. We ask that you DO NOT Seesaw message your child's teacher as they are busy prepping for the school day and often don't see their messages till much later in the day.
