PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been announced previously, but by way of introduction, my name is John Horn and I am the substitute principal at Arleta. I am scheduled to be here through this coming Friday,
November 22. I would like to thank all of the parents, staff and students for your warm
welcome during my time here.
I know this is an unsettled time at Arleta and my goal during my time here is to keep the school on track for the year and to assure that we are taking steps to support students and staff. I attended both the district-led parent meeting on November 5 and our last PTA meeting on November 12. I have also had the opportunity to speak with several parents individually. I heard loudly and clearly that you would like to see an intentional and coordinated effort to support your children to talk about their feelings and to strengthen their drug and alcohol refusal skills.
Our counselors and I met with several representatives of the district office last week to map out our approach to provide just such support. We will be meeting and planning with Arleta
teachers at Tuesday’s staff meeting. I’ll be able to provide more information after that, but I am reassured by the quality (and quantity) of support we are receiving from our central office as well as the obvious devotion of our staff. I feel confident that your children and our staff will feel supported and strengthened.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to help you during my time at Arleta.
John Horn
Arleta School Substitute Principal
NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
"The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges." - National Congress of American Indians
