Referral Periods for Consideration to Test
1st-5th grades-- January 4-28th Referral Window
Kindergarten- March 1-31st Referral Window
If your child was not tested last year, you may refer him or her for gifted testing.

**Please note that this referral does not guarantee testing. Referrals only refer your child for consideration to the gifted advisory committee who will make the decision whether testing is necessary at this time.
What does my child need to qualify for gifted services?
Students can qualify for the gifted program in two ways:
1. Option A: Student has 99%ile in the composite score in mental ability (K-2) or 96%ile or higher in the composite score in mental ability (3rd-12th) and a 90%ile or higher in total reading or total math achievement.
2. Option B: Student has 3 out of 4 of the qualifying scores.
- 96%ile or higher in any area of mental ability
- 90%ile or higher in reading or math achievement
- 90%ile or higher in motivation
- 90%ile or higher in creativity
MY CHILD MAKES STRAIGHT A'S. DOESN'T THAT COUNT TOWARD GIFTED ELIGIBILITY?
Middle schools and high schools can use grade point average as one qualifier for gifted, so please keep that in mind when your child enters those schools.
MY CHILD WAS GIFTED IN ANOTHER STATE/COUNTY. WILL HE BE IN THE GIFTED PROGRAM HERE?
Students coming from another county in Georgia who have previously qualified for gifted are still eligible for services in Coweta County. However, for your child to receive services, we will have to have his or her gifted records on file at the school before attending REACH.
Who can refer a student for gifted testing?
- anyone with a knowledge of child's academic ability- teacher, former teacher, parent, aunt , counselor, neighbor, classmate, principal. Student can even refer self!
