Why I Read It
I decided to read this book because I bought it for my dad for Christmas two years ago and he recommended it to me. My dad told me it was a relatively quick read and it was very interesting.
Mt Everest virtual Climb Amazing video!!
Life or Death Situation
For me, I would say that this book is a good last read, because I really enjoyed it and it made me think a lot about life. It was also full of good life lessons and it had a lot to do with how important family is.
3 Things I Loved
I loved how the author made you feel what Peak was feeling while he was on the mountain.
I loved that there where no low points in the book, and how it stayed interesting.
I loved the twists near the end of the book that kept you guessing what would happen next.
2 Things I Didn't Like About This Book
There wasn't a lot about this book that I didn't like, but I did feel like there was some drastic changes in some of the characters from the beginning of the book to the end that I felt should have been explained better. There were also some characters that seemed interesting, but were only mentioned once or twice. I felt that they should have had a bigger part in the story.
1 Connection
In the book on multiple occasions Peak mentions how important family is to him, I connected with this because I too have a family that I care very much about and I find very important to me.
Youngest person to summit Everest - 13 years old
My Favorite quote
“The only thing you'll find on the summit of Mount Everest is a divine view. The things that really matter lie far below.” pg.246. I like this quote because it shows that although physical achievements are great, the most important things in life are family, friends, and the relationships you have with them.
Recommendation
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book what is interesting while still being straight froward. Also people that like books that are full of adventure would like this book. It is also a relatively quick read, so people that read a lot would like it. I really enjoyed this book and would give it a 10/10 rating.
Themes of Family
In this book one of the main themes is family, and how important family is. In the beginning of the book Peak lived with his mom, his step dad, and his two little twin sisters Patrice and Paula. Peak really loves his two little sisters and would do anything for them; even when he was in court about to be sentenced to jail he took a second to look over at them and make them laugh. When Peak is sentenced the judge decides it is best to have Peak leave the country and go live with his father who he had not seen in 7 years. When the twins where told that they were not going to have their big brother around for a while they where devastated but Peak. He told them that he would keep in contact and try to be back soon. When he arrived in Nepal he thought he would be spending time with his dad but instead he was dropped off at a motel with a sherpa named Zopa. Peak's dad is too busy to spend time with him because he is busy with his many clients who are trying to summit Everest. Peak becomes friends with the sherpa's son, Sun-jo, They decide to climb the mountain together. Peak's dad wants him to be the youngest person to summit Everest but just before they get to the top Peak lets Sun-jo go ahead and be the youngest person. Peak did this because it was more important to Sun-jo's family then it was to Peak. Eventhough Peak's dad wanted him to be the youngest to Summit Peak realized that family was more important that prestige.
