SPACE RACE
Cold War Rivals Clash As They Race To Step On The Moon!
USA and USSR Race To Space
The Soviet Union beat the US to space, with the 1957 orbiting of Sputnik 1, and later beat the US to putting the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, in 1961. The Space Race peaked for the U.S. in 1969 US landing of the first humans on the Moon with Apollo 11. The Race to space tilted its aim towards putting a man on the moon when John F. Kennedy, the U.S. president decided that putting a man on the moon was far enough in the future that it gave America the best chance of beating the Soviets. This was a wise decision by the president. because this was the best chance the U.S. had at beating the Soviets.
