Varsity Girls Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Basehor-Linwood
Last Wednesday the varsity soccer team lost 0-6 to Basehor-Linwood, but I don't feel the score reflected the game. I thought our girls came out and played really hard and never quit. We had a few chances to score a couple goals, but it just didn't seem the ball was bouncing our way. We took the wind in the first half which backfired on us. Two of their goals were helped by the wind, knocking the ball down enough to help them out.Heritage Christian
Friday night was a tough 0-1 loss to a solid team. They made it very difficult for us to even get good looks at the goal and when we did their keeper made the saves. In the first half, we did not play well. Honestly, not a ton of positives in the first half. We were a step or two slow, the first touch was not good, the passing was not accurate, and we weren't organized, it was just bad. The good thing was was that they were not very good either. It was a very sloppy first half both ways. Their formation had something to do with it and the lightning delay did as well. I felt we were ready to rock then the delay hit and took the wind out of our sails and we didn't respond very well. We made some adjustments in how to defend in the second half. I knew that it could lead to a couple 1v1's with Leah. But I trusted Leah to hold strong, and she did! Defensively we really were pretty good. They sat in and looked to counter and they did it well. The 1v1's created were either a good through ball or we just didn't read the play quite right in the back. Offensively we did some really good things, but since they sat in and looked to counter. They made it very difficult for us. I, and probably the whole stadium thought Riley had tied it up, but their keeper got horizontal and made a fantastic save. I was actually almost in mid celebration when I saw it deflect wide. After that, we had chances but we just didn't get a lot of good looks. We just need to shoot as soon as we get an inch of daylight. I am extremely proud of the girls and for the work, the girls are putting in, especially in the second half. Six games in twelve days is really tough. I thought our girls showed a lot of guts in that second half after playing so poorly in the first, to rebound and play a solid and inspired second half. The girls fought like crazy! This loss hurt! The girls were pretty down after the game. We have some girls that are banged up, but continue to put it all out there. In terms of that, Coach and I can't ask for much more. This loss could very easily serve us well going forward. Dropping a tough, hard-fought game like that can show you what you are made of later. I think we have the stuff to rebound and get after it next week and have a great week!
@Leavenworth
We may have got the 1-0 win but it was not pretty by any means. We were sloppy from the first touch of the ball. Defensively we were pretty solid, but offensively we were very sluggish. In talking to other coaches last night it seemed like a theme for everybody. Guess everyone had a case of the Mondays. Even as sloppy as we played we very easily could have been up 2 or 3-0 at the half. They may have possessed a little better, but they didn't create very many good chances. Our backline had a lot to do with that. Leah Williams only had to make 4 or 5 saves in the match and none of which were difficult ones, or Leah just makes it look easy. We finally got the goal with around 8 minutes left. We had a corner kick and I had a feeling senior Kate Erpelding was going to look to score directly from it. That's exactly what she did. She hit it perfectly to the back upper 90. She used the wind to help push it a little. After that, we dropped Kate into a holding mid role with senior Rachel Pratt and had senior Alex Pascua become the lone attacking mid. Just wanted to preserve the win and that's what we did. Nice to get a win when we don't play well. Cause we have lost one and tied one in which we were the better team that particular night.
Next up is Louisburg on Thursday and it will be Senior Night. JV Kickoff will be at 430. Senior Night will be between games starting at around 545. So Senior parents please be there no later than 530. Remember there will be tables set up for senior boards. The Varsity game will kickoff around 615.
JV Girls Soccer - Coach Weirick
Last Wednesday, the JV soccer squad played Basehor-Linwood, ending in a 0-0 tie. I do believe we had a good chance in winning, we just had a few unlucky balls plus it was extraordinarily windy. Sophomore Alexis Frost, junior Riley Steinman, and freshman Xin Clobes played excellent in the acting mid position. We stayed in our formation really well and our attacking mids really did a great job of making that the case. We had a few scoring opportunities by freshman Addison Metcalf and Xin Clobes. We worked really hard as a team and our efforts did show throughout the game. Junior Madison Grosdidier did an excellent job of playing many different positions. She is quickly becoming one of our most versatile players.
Last night the JV played Leavenworth and fell 0-1. In our first half, we seemed a bit disconnected as a team. This was only because we were missing a few girls, due to track meets and illness. We were scored on via a back post shot. At the half, we definitely made some adjustments and we played much better as a team. Although, we weren't able to put one away, neither did Leavenworth. Freshmen Caitlyn Peterson, Harper Andrews, Kyleigh Musick and Madison Woodruff held our backline and we were able to catch a few of the Leavenworth girls offsides. Madison Grosdider did an excellent job pressuring the ball up top. Addison Metcalf, sophomore Mia Schuck, Alexis Frost, and freshman Josie Brooks worked well on our wings! Proud of this team's effort.
Varsity Softball - Coach Finucane
Thursday, April 22 at Wellsville
Game 1:
The Cardinals had everything working in the first game on Thursday winning big over Wellsville 10-3. Junior Elli Han led off the scoring in the first inning by belting a home run with freshman Rylee Griffin on first for a 2-0 Eudora lead. It didn’t take long for junrio Kira Baker to add to the lead with her own home run in the inning with senior Jayla Pierce on first after a walk, Eudora leads 4-0. Wellsville scored one in their half of the inning but Eudora was not done with the long ball in the second inning. After a single by Rylee Griffin and Elli Han, Jayla Pierce connected on a strong drive that cleared the fence in center field for a 3 run homer and a 7-1 Eudora lead. The Cardinals added two more runs in the 3rd after a walk to junior Taylor Hadl. Senior Kourtney Balluch came in to run for Hadl, sophomore Addison Woods was hit by a pitch. With runners on first and second, freshman Kenzie Yoder singles to score Balluch, and on the throw to second Woods scampers home to increase the Eudora lead to 9 – 3. Eudora. The Cardinal added their final run in the 6th inning with a single by Elli Han who stole second and scored on a single by freshman Lilly Rife. Kira Baker got the victory pitching all seven innings, allowing seven hits, striking out 14. The Cardinals had 14 hits, with Lilly Rife, Elli Han, Jayla Pierce, Rylee Griffin and Kenzie Yoder having multiple hits to lead Eudora.
Game two:
There weren't many highlights for Eudora in game two as the Cardinals watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 1-5 loss to Wellsville. Wellsville scored 2 runs in the first inning added two more in the 3rd and one more in the 5th inning. The Cardinals had opportunities to score some runs but just could not get the big hit to go through when they needed it. The Cardinals did a good job of putting the bat on the ball during their at-bats, only striking out twice during the seven innings. They managed 8 hits in the second game, led by Jayla Pierce and Rylee Griffin, each having two hits. Griffin got the lone RBI for Eudora to help get her some offense in her pitching effort. The Cardinals lone run came in the 3rd inning with a single by junior Harper Schreiner who then stole second and scored on a single by Rylee Griffin to drive in the run. After a double by Kira Baker which drove Jayla Pierce to third, the Cardinals continued to put the pressure on in that inning but were not able to get those runs in with a ground out to the Wellsville second baseman. The Cardinals also had a chance to score with a late threat in the first inning with runners at 2nd and third, with two out, but were unable to get those runs home. The Cards never gave up in the game, battled hard, but just not able to get their hits to avoid the fielders.
Monday, April 26th vs McLouth
The Eudora Cardinals Varsity wins a tight contest against McLouth 4-2. McLouth scored in the first inning on an error, led 0-1 after the first inning. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the third inning. Earlier in the top of the third EHS had an impressive play by first baseman Jayla Pierce on a short pop up on the infield which was going to drop, but Jayla covered some ground when she dove and snagged the ball out of the air for the second out of the McLouth 1,2,3 inning. The bottom half of the inning started out uneventful with a ground out and a fly out to left field. Rylee Griffin singled to center field and freshman Parker Long came in to run for her. Elli Han walked moving Parker to second base and Elli on first. Up to the plate is Jayla Pierce, on a 1-2 count, Jayla connected on the pitch knocking the ball out over the center field fence for a three-run homer. Eudora 3, McLouth 1. McLouth added an unearned run in the top of the fifth, making the score 3-2, with Eudora holding the slight edge. In the bottom of the fifth Harper Schreiner hit a triple with one out, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Rylee Griffin to make the score 4-2 Eudora.
Neither team scored in the 6th inning. Kira Baker retired the side in order in the top of the 7th to earn the victory Eudora 4 - McLouth 2. Kira allowed no earned runs, 1 hit, and struck out 15 in the game to get the win. Eudora ended up with 4 hits, one each for Harper Schreiner, Rylee Griffin, Jayla Pierce and Kira Baker.
JV Softball - Coach Hodges
The Eudora Girls JV Softball layed a double header against Wellsville on Thursday, April 22nd. The first game started out with a 4 - 0 run by Eudora. Junior Rylee Calhoon started us off with a hard hit single, followed by Sophomore Bree Gabel, Sophomore Sarah Watts and Freshman Harlie Dougherty string together singles to continue to drive in runs. In the 4th inning Rylee Calhoon started us off again with a double, Junior Teghan LeRow with a single and Sarah Watts driving in runs. Sophomore Eliza Fewins was the winning pitcher on the mound. The Eudora girls took the win in the first game 8-2.
In the second game, our offense started out with Rylee Calhoon, Bree Gabel and Freshman Lilly Cooper all taking walks. However we couldn’t string together any walks or hits to gain any runs. The next few innings both teams struggled at the plate until the 3rd inning, Eudora went down 0-11. In the 4th inning, Eudora came back to score 7 runs for a 7-11 score. Rylee Calhoon had a shot to centerfield to start a two out rally. Sarah Watts, and Harlie Doughtery had hard shot singles while Teghan LeRow hit a single into right field with the bases loaded. The girls were fighting hard to make a comeback, but Wellsville came back in the 4th inning to score 3 more runs. In the 5th inning, we couldn’t keep the bats hot and lost the game 7-14.
JV played a single game against McLouth, on Monday, April 26th. Rylee Calhoon started us off with a walk, Bree Gabel laid down a beautiful bunt to get on base, followed by Lilly Cooper hitting a single to score a run. Freshman Rylee Griffin steps up to the plate and hits a line shot down left field side to score two. Sarah Watts hits a single on the right side to score another run. In the first inning Eudora was up 4-0. Rylee Griffin was on the mound and held Mclouth scoreless for 6 innings Eudora scored 3 more runs in the 5th inning, by Freshman Sawyer Schreiner, Senior Kourtney Balluch, Rylee Griffin, Harlie Dougherty and Lilly Cooper put together a string of hits. McLouth scored their lone run in the 6th inning with two triples. The Eudora Cardinals pull away with the win 7-1.
Next scheduled doubleheader will be with Ottawa on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 4:30 pm.
JV Baseball - Coach Mathern
Going into Baldwin we were coming off a big two game sweep against a 5a school. Before the game I told the boys that yes it is nice to beat a 5a but that does not mean much if we can't do the same thing against teams in our league. Plus it is Baldwin and we all know about that rivalry. We started off the game great! First inning we scored 5 runs all with two outs. Freshman Dakota Pringle started on the mound for us and threw a bunch of strikes that led to easy outs. We kept the bats going the rest of the game scoring 22. Moore closed game one and picked up right where Pringle left off. Threw a bunch of strikes that led to easy outs. We run ruled Baldwin in 5 innings with the final score being 22-4 in the first game. The second game got super cold in a hurry. Luckily we got out to a good start and scored 6 runs early on. Spring started on the mound game two and had a pretty good outing in the cold. Giffin came in to close the game and we took game two 7-4 completing the two game sweep against Baldwin!
April 21st vs. Basehor
Finally get to play Basehor after two rainouts! Game one we started with Cole Parker on the mound. He ended up throwing a bunch of pitches because the batters were fouling everything off and staying alive at the plate. Eventually I would bring in Foltz to close the game and together they had 8 strikeouts. Our bats were okay but we left a lot of runners on base. We did score at least one run per inning and played smart when running the bases. After not allowing any runs in the first 4 innings, we gave up 5 runs in the final three innings. Even with those five runs we were able to hold off to win 5-7.
Lemonds started on the mound for us game two and did a great job after walking the first batter of the game. After that he threw a ton of strikes and made batters hit east ground out and pop flys. After scoring 3 runs in the first inning, we scored 11 runs in the second! Every batter scored during the second inning and that was incredible. Just something you don't see too often. We would go on to run rule Basehor in the 5th inning to end the night. Completing another 2 game sweep against a 5a school.
Eudora JV is now 9-5 on the season.
Track - Coach Pickett
Meet Summary - Shocker Pre-State Meet - 4/15/21
Notes: Nine varsity athletes traveled to Wichita for the Shocker Pre-State meet this year. This two-day meet gave some of our top runners an opportunity to compete against athletes we would not see in our regular schedule and to get familiar with running at Cessna stadium where the state championship track and field meet is held in May. Some of the athletes competed in a 4A-6A division while others competed in an “Elite” division which includes the top entries from all classes in each event. Cold weather, rain, and wind made running personal best times difficult on Friday. Sydney Owens and Stella Whalen both placed in the top three in elite division events. The varsity teams come back together next week for our home meet, the Cardinal Relays, on Thursday, April 22nd.
Team Results: The girls placed 4th out of 14 teams in the elite division events point total. The boys did not score in the elite division.

Streamed games - Ms Kimberlin
Cardinal Nation:
EHS has joined the NFHS (National Federation of High Schools) Network and installed new video technology at Eudora District Stadium and in the EHS Gym that will offer you the opportunity to subscribe so that you can watch all of our events at home. By subscribing you also have access to games at any school EHS plays that have the NFNS system; DeSoto and Piper are examples, as well as thousands of other schools across the country that are part of the NFHS. In these times of limited attendance, we strive to be able to offer all we can to our fans and students to be able to watch our events whether at home or on the road. Please go to NFHSnetwork.com and search for Eudora High School to see upcoming events your Cardinals are competing in. Thank you to all parents and spectators for your support and understanding during this year of unprecedented changes.
To subscribe to the NFHS Network go to www.NFHSnetwork.com, search for Eudora High School, and subscribe. This will be a great way for friends and family members who can’t make the game to watch their favorite Cardinal compete.
