VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BEING COURAGEOUS"
WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!
WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.
Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.
Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.
HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.
They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.
Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)
1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway
2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise
3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do
4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones
5) You find role models of quietly courageous people
6) You continue to learn and accept challenges
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
A big thanks to you all for the support of Learning Conferences. We aim to get 100% of our whanau here to meet and discuss the progress of your child(ren) - it has been great to see the positive response to these conferences. Again, thanks for making alternative arrangements for our early closure yesterday and closure today. We endeavour to fit in with local schools, especially Highlands Intermediate, and to have our Teacher Only Days on the same day.
A friendly reminder to our Year 6 whanau to get enrolled with your local intermediate. There are open evenings coming up for Highlands and Devon on the 12th and 26th of August respectively. See the enrolment timelines at the bottom of this newsletter.
Free Period Products in Schools: As part of a new government initiative, we will be providing free period products to students who require them. Period products will be available from this week to all students. The products will be located in the women's toilets in the senior office area and students are invited to help themselves.
Thanks whanau, have a great weekend.
Aroha nui, Mr O

VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Thanks to our Home and School team who met on Tuesday night to plan for the raffles this term. Please, if you know of any businesses, or you have 'hook ups' with businesses please ask if they would like to donate a voucher for our raffle. Last year our Term 3 raffle raised over $9,000! Email the Home and School if you are able to help out here - vshomeandschool@gmail.com
The money raised so far this year is going to be spent on some new Chromebooks for the Paetoki and Huatoki teams. We are also going to be purchasing some new science gear for class science lessons and we are in the process of planning for a new playground beside Rm 6.
A reminder we are holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser at the New Plymouth Hockey Turf on Hobson St on Saturday 14th August. We would LOVE some volunteers to help us, even just for an hour would be fantastic! Please email vshomeandschool@gmail.com if you can help.
Thanks whanau!
