Introduction
Art- Mrs. Strauss
Hello everyone!
I hope this note finds you well, happy and staying creative. I have been busy creating jewelry and doing a lot of cooking. When I cook, believe it or not, color is important to me. I learned that from my Aunt Gertie. She cheated though and used food coloring. Yesterday for St. Patrick's Day I made an extremely colorful plate. We had; corn beef (reddish-pink), purple cabbage, carrots, and asparagus. I think I was just missing something yellow and blue. Could you design a meal that uses all of the primary and secondary colors? If you think of one, please draw it out, email me your idea and possibly ask a grownup to help you execute the meal. I would love to see a picture.
Check out this link. I think it is funny. https://youtu.be/tT2Gi6ZcYXMvv

Enjoy and I hope these inspire you to try something new.

Health- Mrs. Lenguadoro
Hi, My Darlings!
I miss you all so much. I hope that you are remembering to keep those AWESOME Germ Fighting Machine bodies healthy. Be sure to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy foods, get some exercise and try to keep your hands away from your faces !!!!!!
As you know, washing our hands for 20 seconds is a great way to keep germs away. I want you to try something fun. Think of your favorite song. Time yourself for twenty seconds while singing that song. Now you know how much of your song you need to sing while you are washing your hands to kill all of those nasty germs. Maybe you can pick a new song each day !!!!!
My first song is going to be “Hooked on a Feeling” from Guardians of the Galaxy. You all know how much I love Awesome Mix 1 and 2. I can’t wait to hear which songs all of you picked.
Love,
Mrs. Lenguadoro
Library & Computers- Mrs. Reasso
Aloha!
I learned how to say hello in Hawaiin because I would love to be there right now!
Can you say hello in another language? It is one of your free choice activities!
I hope you are enjoying some of those Library mini activities. Feel free to do all of them! They are meant to be fun and to keep you doing some of the things we do in the library - like read, tell jokes, and even sing!
Next week, I will share some internet links, but for now, there are lots of things you can that do not require the internet! Color, draw, write a story and illustrate it yourself! Make a paper airplane, learn how to make a fun food, or do a puzzle. I am going to buy our annual ant farm and will take pictures of it along the way, so you can follow their progress! As always, enjoy reading!
If you have access to a computer, please practice typing using the keyboard! Type your name, type a story, type the ABC’s! If not, use the paper keyboard to do all those things! It will help!
Don’t forget to go outside and play, too!
Music- Mr. Odom
This week's topic is rhythm. Music has rhythm and rhythm is everywhere. The rain has a rhythm. Our bodies have an inner rhythm. Rhythm is in how we walk. Rhythm is in how a train moves. Rhythm is in how we talk. Rhythm is found in how we brush our teeth. We read with rhythm. The washing machine has a rhythm too; when it’s washing clothes. ¡Hola! Hello everyone!
While we are home, let’s try to find rhythms. Listen to and listen for the rhythm of words when you or others are talking. Listen to the rhythm of the toothbrush moving across your teeth. What else has rhythm? Can you find other things that have rhythm besides words, toothbrushes brushing, rain, trains or washing machines?
Please also enjoy these two different “Rhythm of the Rain” musical selections: https://youtu.be/WeJdKC2noIc & https://youtu.be/PJ_ygNMazO0. One is a choral performance which reminds me of my time teaching chorus at DIS and the other is a guitar rendition of an oldie but a goodie.
*Remember to complete one music activity per week, for your grade level, in the take=home packet. Have fun!
Until next time, have piles of smiles!

Physical Education- Mr. Zwier and Mr. Cordero
Hello everyone!
We hope you are doing well and staying active! Although we are sad that we can’t meet with you for PE class, we are happy to show you some of the awesome activities you can do at home with your family. In the packet we sent home to you, we have included a couple of fun exercise games you can play like Card Sharks Fitness, Bingo, Create Your Own Bootcamp, and Full Name Workout. Give some (or all) of them a shot and let us know what you think!
Remember, we should be working to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. So get outside and be active, build a fort to play in or build an obstacle course to run through. The possibilities are endless. Just remember to make smart choices, be safe and help out your parents!
If you’d like to train like a superhero, give this online workout a shot.

Kindergarten Reading- Mrs. Weingart
Hi my awesome Kindergarteners!!
Mrs. Roskos and I miss your smiley faces so much. I hope you are all being kind and helpful to your family while you are learning at home. I am at home working with my very own Kindergartener and 2nd grader, and we are keeping very busy.
As we are all working so hard on our school work, it’s sometimes nice to take a break. While on that break, I would love for you to sing the ABC song with a family member. You can sing to them and then have them join in with you. Singing always brings me joy. I would also love for you to visit this video clip of the Fundation alphabet cards to remind you of the letters and the sounds they make https://youtu.be/5kbPqHe4u7k. Show your family how well you know these cards.
Lastly, for this week, with help from an adult, I want you to go around your house and look for objects that start with all different letters of the alphabet, put them in a bag that you can’t see through, and play a mystery letter/object game. Have your family member pull an object from the bag and you have to tell them the letter and letter sound it starts with. Have so much fun, and don’t forget to always ask for that very special bedtime story.
Talk to you next week.
1st Grade Reading- Mrs. Bivans
Hi everyone!
Boy, do we miss all of you! Remember to work on your RAZ kids while you are at home! If you need your login information please tell your grown-up to email me at jbivans@delranschools.org.
If you have an iPad at home you can get this really cool game from the App Store called Teach Your Monster to Read. I’ve been playing it with my daughter and it’s so much fun! Keep reading your books with your grown-ups, and be brave when you come to words you don’t know. Use all of your strategies to figure out those words! Look for chunks you know, smaller words, tap out sounds, and remember our friend silent e! Keep reading and I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures when we see each other again!
Miss you bunches!

2nd Grade Reading- Mrs. Schneider
Hi Kiddos,
I miss seeing your smiling faces every day! - While we’re not together practicing our long vowel sounds, I want you to remember what we already learned. While you’re reading independently at home, or even if a parent is reading to you, I want you to choose your favorite part of the story you’re enjoying. Take a look at your favorite 3 or 4 pages and make a list of all the words you hear that have the long a sound in them. Write them down and see how that long a is spelled, is it ai, ay, or aCe? See which pattern appears most often. I also want you to listen to a story on Storylineonline.com. Retell the story to a grown-up remembering to use the Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then-model. If your grown-up has any questions they need to be answered or you want to write to me about your reading, my email is kschneider@delranschools.org.
Take care and listen to your grown-ups!
Love,
Mrs. Schneider
Sight Words- Mrs. Roskos
Hello students….what do you say? It’s going to be a happy day!
We certainly do miss seeing your happy faces. You have all learned so many sight words and it is important to keep practicing your words while you are at home. Remember sight words are so good to know they help your reading flow!
Some ideas to practice your sight words include writing the words with sidewalk chalk, write 10 sight words on sticky notes or pieces of paper and spread them out on a table and then have your child put their favorite small toy on the sight word as you say it, make a sight word memory game by writing each sight word on two different pieces of paper then turn the paper over and invite your child to find the matches.
If you have access to a computer or iPad try this link below by Jack Hartmann to practice Kindergarten sight words in a song format https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIZjrcG9pW0
Another site that has free resources and ideas for sight word practice is https://sightwords.com/

Keep smiling and have fun learning!

Math- Mrs. Guarini
Hi 1st and 2nd graders!
I miss you! Please keep in touch with me while you are working at home. A grown-up or older brother or sister can help you email me at eguarini@delranschools.org.
While you are at home working on your school assignments, please practice your math facts (addition and subtraction) each day. You can use a deck of cards or roll dice to find numbers to make addition and subtraction number sentences. Remember that when adding, it is faster to start with the bigger number and count ON. Also, don't forget that subtraction number sentences always start with the BIGGER number. Have fun:)

English as a Second Language for Kindergarten- Mrs. DeLoche
Hello! Oi! Merhaba!
I miss you all so much, but I want you to enjoy this extra time with your families. Show them what an amazing job you have been doing with your English learning.
I know it is hard to be stuck in the house all day. I am trying to go out at least once a day and take a walk. Going outside and taking a walk is a great time to practice your English. There is so much for you to see and do. Try naming and describing the things you see while on your walk. You can use these sentence starters to talk about what you see… I see a _bird___. It is _red___.
Keep practicing your English with your Choice Boards. Pick one thing to try each day. Remember, by the end of days 1-5 you should have picked at least one listening, one speaking, one reading, and one writing activity.
If there is anything you need please don’t hesitate to reach out to me adeloche@delranschools.org. Have fun and be brave!

English as a Second Language for 1st Grade- Mrs. Slaven
Hello!
I miss seeing you! I hope you are having fun spending time with your families. While you are spending a lot of time in your home, see if you know what all the objects in your house are in English? You can do this activity with a parent so they can learn too!
Each day I would like you to stand in a room in your house and name 10 things you see in English. Then I want you to add the color of the object- “brown table”. And then if you are really brave (I know you all are!) I want you to make a sentence- “We eat on the brown table”. Add as many words as you can.
Make it a game and see if you can make a longer sentence with each object you name in that room. Go to the kitchen today, then your bedroom tomorrow. Practice with a brother or sister and your parents. Have them repeat what you say and they can make their own sentences.
You can also make a list of your 10 things- write them down! Sound out each word and also practice the color words. Have fun and practice your English! Miss you!
