RECOGNIZING MENTAL ILLNESS
In other countries
SCHIZOPHRENIA & DEPRESSION
Is Schizophrenia Hereditary?- YES!!!
- Schizophrenia has a strong hereditary component. Individuals with a first-degree relative (parent or sibling) who has schizophrenia have a 10 percent chance of developing the disorder, as opposed to the 1 percent chance of the general population.
- Is Depression Hereditary?- Sort of
There is a gene that is commonly found in depressed people. The chromosome 3p25-26 was found in more than 800 families with recurrent depression. Scientists believe as much as 40 percent of those with depression can trace it to a genetic link. Environmental and other factors make up the other 60 percent.
Research has also shown that people with parents or siblings who have depression are up to three times more likely to have the condition. This can be due to heredity or environmental factors that have a strong influence
SO ITS NOT A CULTURAL THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do we ignore these issues?
A kid has anger, hyperactivity, or depression and adults put it off as Kids being kids.Or in the case of teenagers that they are just having mood swings because of their changing hormones. We all have moments when we discard peoples actions even going as far as calling them Crazy, attention seeking , etc. If parents and friends are ignoring these issues then it may cause sever depression and even suicide.
How do we change this?
Recognize you're friends and family and understand their suffering. You don't have to be educated in mental illness but you just have to know your loved ones.
