Transition to the Junior High
Hello 6th grade families!
As we continue to go through the scheduling process for next year, please take a moment to view our Rising 7th Academic Information Video. Here is the link to the video. You can also view the slide presentation and full video on our website here: https://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/3303
The Junior High counselors are also excited to be meeting with all the 6th grade students next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will be meeting individually to help select world language, music, and electives courses. Course verification sheets, which are a list of the courses planned for next year, will be made available in eBackpack on March 25th. Parents will be able to review planned courses at that time, and if any changes need to be made, can contact their Junior High School counselor.
A mailer was sent earlier this week that you should receive no later than this weekend. It includes information regarding scheduling for next year. One of the handouts in the mailer, the Course Planning Sheet, can be found here for easy access. It helps explain how a student's schedule fits together. Students are encouraged to review class options this weekend to assist with selecting classes next week.
Our Course Planner can be found here: https://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/2594
Looking forward to meeting the 6th grader students next week!

Transition Timeline
The Junior High has begun the process of transitioning your son/daughter as a seventh grader! We are confident that the outstanding academic foundation Greene has established will carry on here at the Junior High. In addition, the Junior High has a dynamic after school life with many athletic opportunities and clubs. We look forward to your family joining our Junior High community. While the transition process is in the early planning stages, we are very excited to think about your son/daughter joining us in August!
Below are some important dates regarding the scheduling and transition process:
Junior High Course Planner now available online!: The 7th Grade Junior High course planner can be found on the Junior High website via the Counseling Page: Sycamore Junior High School → Counseling → Course Planner & Scheduling

HERE is a letter about the World Language class at the Junior High.
Greene Walking Program is back!
The PTO is excited to start the Greene Walking Program back up this spring. The program is a great opportunity for you to get some exercise, burn off some energy during recess, and earn prizes at the same time. The program will be available every Tuesday and Thursday during recess, starting on March 1st.
All you have to do to participate is add your name to the google doc that was included in the email you received about the program.
There is no obligation to walk each week, but that is how we will keep track of the laps you have walked. 7 times around the track is 1 mile. For the first mile you walk, you will receive a sneaker keychain. Different prizes will be given out for each mile after that.
There will be a parent volunteer at recess keeping track of your laps so make sure you check in with him/her after each lap. Simply give them your name each time you pass and start earning prizes!
So grab a few friends, enjoy some fresh air and exercise and have fun!
Greene Walking Program - Parent Volunteers Needed
We are looking for parent volunteers to help with the Walking Program to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during recess, starting March 1st. Volunteers will help tally laps walked and hand out prizes during 5th and 6th grade recesses. Please see sign up genius below or contact Erica Armstrong ericaarmstrong3@gmail.com or Melissa Moeddel melissamoeddel@gmail.com for more information.
Walkathon is coming!
Time to dust off the running shoes, the Greene students are heading outside on Thursday, April 14th for Walkathon. We are raising money for Arts Alive, Aviation Station/STEAM Bus, School Clubs, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Lunches, Teacher and School special requests (playground, special classroom projects, teacher classroom supplements, etc.). In addition, we will donate 10% of our profits to Sycamore Bridges and Operation Give Back, local charitable organizations that work directly with families and kids within our district who have specific needs.
**All parents please be on the lookout for a Google doc that will be coming before spring break.
