12 Days of Innovation
We are excited to announce that the 12 Days of Innovation grant is back for the 2018-2019 school year! This award is based off a nomination process to acknowledge teachers who are exemplifying Engaging, Relevant and Personal instruction in their classroom or teachers who have shown growth in their own learning that you want to recognize and encourage.
The process is open for you to nominate a teacher in your school(s). If awarded, the nominated teacher could win $500 to use in their classroom. Nominations can be made through the google form linked below and the nomination window will close November, 20th at 5 p.m.
Awards will be announced starting December 4th on Twitter. Follow @OfficialSPS to keep updated on winners and announcements from the 12 Days of Innovation team!

Shared Drive: Behavior Interventions
At this point in the year we have all identified those kiddos who require additional support and attention in order to have a successful day at school. We’ve had some eye-opening discussions about trauma and the impact it has on our students and the classrooms they learn in each day. As you game plan for potential tier 2 and tier 3 intervention strategies I want to share a couple of practical resources that have been successful in improving student behaviors. Between our 35 elementary buildings we have a TON of great strategies being utilized, so in an attempt to facilitate the sharing of ideas, I have created a Google “Shared Drive” named Behavioral Interventions where you can upload any resources that may be beneficial to other “Great Ones” who are working through similar challenges.
Thanks for all you do to create a “can do” attitude and culture of positivity within your teams.
Champion for Reading
As first quarter comes to a close, one great way to gauge the volume of reading taking place in your building is to ask your librarian for a circulation report. How many books have we checked out this quarter? How does this compare to the previous quarter? Previous year? Be willing to spark the discussion with your teams about how we can increase these numbers throughout the year. Set a goal, share it with your school, and go for it!

A few of you have brought up either learning about, reviewing or reestablishing PBIS programming, as there is a natural connection to the social/emotional/trauma work. Mike & I are considering bringing in the PBIS peeps based upon interest. If you are interested in this possibility, please click here so we can accurately gauge the interest and level.
Make it an amazing week!
