Join our RCS Reading Challenge!

West Central's reading challenge for grades pre- K-6th grade has begun. Our students will be reading books after school and filling out their reading logs located in their homework folders. This program encourages students to choose books they love from our school library and online sources. We will track their progress using classroom incentive charts as well as our giant school thermometer. Since kindergarteners and Pre-K students may not be reading yet, we encourage adults and siblings to read to them until they have the skills needed to work independently.

Audio books are a wonderful way to expose your child to complex language, expressive reading, and fantastic stories. Listening to audio books also gives kids the valuable and enjoyable experience of using their own imaginations to visualize the people and places they’re hearing about. Find out more about audio books here:

At West Central Elementary, we do things the RCS Way! We are Ready to Learn, Courteous, and Safe!

At West Central, we reward students when they meet school-wide expectations and demonstrate the RCS Way with behavior points using a program called PBIS Rewards. Students may use those points for immediate rewards or may save them for grade-level or school-wide PBIS celebrations. Our first PBIS celebration will take place on Wednesday, October 6, and students must have 75 points in order to attend.
