PTO NEWS CORNER
Hello Creekside Parents!
The CES PTO is gathering parent information to be able to communicate with parents throughout the entire 20/21 school year. We would like to communicate with you both during digital learning and as we are hopefully able to return to face to face learning. Our weekly email will inform you of school information, PTO events, volunteer opportunities and more. Please take a moment to fill out the google form. Also, please mark your calendar for September 8th at 5:30pm. We will have our first meeting of the year via Zoom. The link will be posted in the coming week. Thank you from your Creekside PTO!
Change from 12 Week Grading Period to 9 Week Grading Period
9- Week Grading Period
Hello to our Creekside Families,
Craven County Schools district and schools are working very hard to keep parents informed about their child’s progress. This communication has never been more important. Currently, Craven County Schools reports student progress to parents on separate grading cycles. Students in grades 6-12 receive report cards every nine weeks. In Kindergarten - 5th grades, students’ report cards are provided every 12 weeks. There are numerous reasons to adjust the reporting schedule for our youngest students to a 9-week grading cycle, including but not limited to, alignment to a systematic approach to improvement.
Teachers can provide more formalized feedback to parents before retention recommendations are made. In the current situation, students may only have one grading period to make adjustments, which is unfair and does not represent what we know about the cognitive development of children.
Educators will have an additional opportunity to share strategies with families for interventions that may aid students in a blended learning environment.
Craven LIVE students in grades K -5 will receive two report cards before winter break when their commitment to Craven LIVE is over, and at which time they may elect to return to Plan A, B, or C.
Our system will be aligned to one grading cycle to allow schools to “share” teachers due to allotment concerns.
All K- 12 Schools will be on a 9-week grading cycle.
