April News
What's happening at HGECC?
April has sure brought some changes hasn't it?
Hello High Grove Families!
Wow. Things have changed since our last newsletter.
Let's start with the weather. It has been hot, warm, cold, cool, windy, and pretty much everything in between! I even heard we might see some snow flakes at the end of this week.
All of the trees are budding, flowers are blooming, and things are turning green. It is so beautiful out there! I hope that in these past few weeks, you have found some time to go for a walk with your family and look at all of the nature around you.
Then we have our stay at home orders, and distance learning that has been happening. That's probably the biggest thing on everyone's mind right now. We are three weeks into teaching and learning from our homes. I have been so excited to see how hard our staff has worked to create lessons that you can do at home with your little people. The pictures and videos you all have shared of your children doing "school" at home have brought smiles to our faces. We miss our students so very much.
One way you can stay connected with us, is by joining our HGECC facebook group. If you haven't joined our private HGECC family Facebook group, please do! We share lesson plans, activities, read alouds, and other helpful information there. You can click here to join:
https://bit.ly/HGparents.Please be sure to answer the two questions in order to join the group.
Also, if you need meals, please stop by any of our elementary buildings or the high school to pick up a grab and go lunch/breakfast between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Our teachers have all reached out to you in various ways. We are also updating our classroom websites with activities and information. I would encourage you to check out your child's classroom website for pictures, resources, and updates on what is happening! Go to https://hgecc.grandviewc4.net, click on "about us", then go to "teachers and staff". Find your teacher's name and click on their website.
We are all in this together, and will get through this. Be kind to one another, and remember when you are feeling overwhelmed: Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax. We got this!

Conscious Discipline Focus at Home:
The Story Hand
A Story Hand is a gentle hand massage accompanied by a personalized social story that helps a child deal with stress or anxiety. The story you tell will reflect a specific, personalized experience or concern for the child. This graphic summarizes how to conduct a Story Hand. Slow down, be present, connect and enjoy this profoundly helpful activity with a child who is having a tough time.
