Welcome Back
Welcome Back
Good Evening Poinciana Pandas,
As principal of Poinciana STEM Elementary, I am pleased to welcome everyone back for another great year at Poinciana. We are so excited to have all of our students back in our classrooms and filling the hallways with energy and excitement. I want to welcome Ms. Rivera (attendance), Ms. Desouza, and Ms. Woodman (Kindergarten), Ms. Tam (Third grade), Ms. McCurry (Fourth -grade), and Mr. Harrington (fifth- grade).
As an educational leader, I aspire to collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and community members to foster our future leaders in a safe and nurturing environment. I believe that access to the highest quality education is a fundamental right of every child. This year, we will return to our Fine Arts classrooms, and the teachers are excited to implement our hands-on learning experiences for all of our students once again.
Our learning this year will have a strong emphasis on vocabulary, phonics, and individualized small group instruction. In addition, this year, the teachers will receive professional development on effective ways to check for understanding during instruction, engage students in meaningful conversations around the content, and provide timely and effective feedback.
You can expect newsletters from me at least twice a month. I also post on Class Dojo and send call-out text messages and emails. Would you please help us by communicating with our staff through DOJO, phone calls, or emails? You can also find updates under the parent and student section of our school website.

We look forward to working with you and your student this school year.
Respectfully,
Mrs. McDowell

Arrival begins at 7:30 in the parent drop-off loop. Students will sit under the pavilion until the first bell rings at 7:45. If they want lunch, they can report directly to the cafeteria for breakfast. We have a single point of entry system. Kindergarten parents will be allowed to walk their students to their rooms beginning at 7:45. Do not try to enter the building before that time. Kindergarten parents and students will enter on the playground side of the Kindergarten classrooms. We will have staff to direct you. You may park in the teacher parking lot and at the Sims Center. All visitors are required to wear masks while on school district property. The only entry for parents into the building will be through the back doors of the kindergarten rooms. All other entry points will be locked for safety.
Aftercare
At this time, aftercare is full. We have waiting lists in every grade level. We are still in need of several aftercare counselors. If you know someone interested in one of the aftercare positions, please get in touch with Ms . May at 561-739-5730.
Class Dojo
If you have not yet joined Class Dojo, please do so. Go to the app store or the Google Play store to download the free app.
Dismissal
Dismissal begins at 2:05 when the last bell rings. If your student(s) are car riders, you must have your window decal in the car. If you do not have our decal, you will be asked to pull to the side of the loop and provide your driver's license.
Asking for proof of identity is for the safety of all of our students. Using your window decal will avoid you having to show identification each time. If you have not confirmed your dismissal with your child's teacher, reach out to them immediately.
