Abortion: Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?
By: Ashlyn Breuer
Argument
I believe that abortion should be legal and funded in every state, however in order to have one, the parents need to have good reasoning, such as financial difficulties, or medical problems. However, both parents should be aware of the situation and agree with it.
Reason One: Financial Difficulties
As teenagers, we all know we are not fit to handle a child. Nearly one third of all abortions after 12 weeks are obtained by teenagers (Health Research Funding). If abortion is illegal, many teenagers would be forced to have children they do not want, which is unsafe for both the children and parents.
Reason Two: Safety
According to Web MIT, 13% of pregnancy-related deaths worldwide are related to complications of unsafe abortion. Sometimes, because abortion is not an option in their state or country, women have them done illegally, which can also be unsafe.
Reason Three: Why not just choose adoption?
The foster care system across the world is already in a rapid decline. It is unsupported by government, and more and more children are being put into them. If abortion is illegal, most parents will be forced to send their child into the foster care system. In the united states, the number of abortions is almost 5 times the amount of children that are adopted each year (PBS).
Impact
Making abortion legal in every state would be both an upset and a happy-ending to many people in the United States. In doing so, the percentage of pregnancy-related deaths would decline, the amount of children being forced into foster care would decline, and many in the future would no longer have to struggle with financial difficulties and supporting a family.
