Mrs. Demeio serves as our literacy coach and helps children in our school to read and write. She is an amazing educator who has had an endless impact on our school, and we are delighted that she was selected for this great honor! We are so proud of our "reading and writing queen", Mrs. Demeio!

A Note of Thanks
A huge THANK You to our Riverview families and students for helping to make our fall Scholastic Book Fair such a big success. This book fair marks the first time in almost 3 years that parents have been able to shop the book fair in person. All proceeds collected from the book fair are used to fund our school library. This means that all our students benefit from the book fair proceeds!
Finally, thank you to our volunteers who helped with every aspect of book fair from set up to tear down. It truly takes a village to run this event and I am very fortunate that you have all shared your time.
Sincerely,
Joanne PiazzaRVES Media Specialist

Spacey Speech Tips from our Amazing Speech Therapists
Model one of the most important conversation skills: Listening to and expanding upon what someone else says. After your child has told you something, repeat back part of what your child said, and then follow up with a question: “Wow, it sounds like that art project took a lot of patience. What other project do you think would be fun to make? And what different materials would you need?”

STELLAR....ELA News from Ms. DeMeio
Here are some strategies and tips for parents looking for assistance in helping their kids improve their reading comprehension:
Help them decode words by reading aloud.
An awareness of the letters and sounds words make and understanding how they blend together to make words and sentences is called decoding. When you read you determine what the words are and whether they make sense in a sentence. The only way to check how your children decode, is to ask them to read aloud.
This forces them to go slower, which gives them more time to process what they read, hearing the words as well as seeing the words on the page.
Moon Math Games from Mrs. Gaither & Mrs. Segarra
Math Before Bed is a collection of prompts that can inspire mathematical discussions that you and your children can have before bed, at dinner, or anytime.
Transportation Changes
Parents are encouraged to have a consistent mode of transportation for their child to eliminate confusion and the potential for a child going home the incorrect way. However, we realize that there are times when a transportation change needs to be made. We prefer all changes in writing via email.
In the event you need to change your child's transportation, please send an email to the child’s teacher and to our receptionist, Ms. Storms at stormsj@fortmillschools.org. All changes must be made by 1:30pm. Students will be sent home their usual way if no communication has been received from the parents.
2022-2023 Lunch Visitors
We are excited to allow parents back to lunch in our building. Parent lunches will not begin until Tuesday, September 6th or after. We will also have to close lunches during testing windows and other school events. If your child has a birthday in the month of August, you will be permitted to visit prior to the Labor Day holiday. We have a list of students who have a birthday in August.
Due to safety, security and building capacity, all elementary schools are implementing the following parent lunch policy.
- Each student will have four parent lunch passes for the entire school year. Each visit counts as one "pass."
- We ask that no more than two visitors come to lunch for a student at a time.
- Parents visiting for lunch will only be allowed to visit the cafeteria.
- The administration/office staff will not mediate passes between split families or one parent/guardian monopolizing the passes.
- Only parents/guardians on the approved list will be allowed to visit for lunch.
- Parents will be required to show their ID for lunch.
- Students will not be allowed to have a friend sit with them when a parent is visiting for lunch.

1) Website is http://www.bollingerschools.com
2) All the forms I sent can be pulled up off the website but will need to access through the PARENT portal.
3) The website has some good features such as tracking claims (for parents), claim forms in Spanish, Bollinger address and contact number, etc.
All questions about the voluntary plan, please contact Bollinger directly. The school or district office does not handle this insurance.
